I do know getting rid of the grubs and worms will make them eventually leave. But what about ridding them now before they do too much damage to the lawn. Any ideas?

I would like to know as well. Digging their tunnels up with an excavator worked for me a few weeks ago but im sure they are working on a new area. Those home depot electronic things only work for a small radius and they will only relocate. Shotguns wont work either unless you want to sit there all day and try to find them all. Im all ears and out of options

Someone on here a couple of months ago said that rat traps with peanut butter as bait with a big bucket over it all would work.
I was doubtful but being desperate and having tried a lot of other solutions with limited success thought I would give it a try.
Was amazed how well it worked. Got more success in two weeks than I had had in the past two years. Opened the mounds so that a hole to the tunnel was open put the trap near the hole and covered with the bucket. Did not really believe it would work but it really worked well.

I used to use traps like these

right up till about 3 weeks ago.

After many 'un-trips', I change to this style.

Maybe it was just luck, but got that SOB in 4 days after the change.

I assume this bucket would prevent your cats or dogs from sticking their tongue in the trap? I just wouldnt trust it with my nosey dogs. The kick stuff over all the time if they smeel something good hahah

Well Just bought 12 of those suckers on eBay. Those little rascals tore my back yard up pretty bad. I just now started seeing them again. Well it's war this time. :D

I bought the 12 DK 1 model. Crossing my finger and hope they work.

I remember a post in a thread awhile back, where a member used exhaust fumes to kill the "Boogers". BTW, best wishes.

When we first moved in I was had them bad, so i sprayed the lawn and garden with neimotodes from a backpack sprayer worked great until this year when the moles came back so I am assuming the grubs are back. In the spring I will spray again. I think it lasted for me about 6 years between sprays.

I know we are all DIYers but there is a guy you can hire here called the " mole Marine". I sometimes spread the repellant granuals down and that works pretty good until this year I traped one in the yard:(
My neighbor waits in the yard with a pitch fork and is really effective. One of my dogs stalks them; this is fun to watch as she slowly moves up on the tunneling moles then digs them up and crushes their dreams. I have the traps as well but tend to not put them in because of the dogs.

Best way to get rid of moles... is to sell your house and move somewhere they don't have them..... :)

I have had mixed luck with traps that go in/above the tunnels, although even mis-fires seem to scare the moles out of the area, so they partially work. The rat trap / peanut butter / bucket trick is intriguing, and maybe I will try that next as long as I can keep the buckets weighted down good (raccoons love peanut butter and I'd had to have one running around with a rat trap stuck to the arm, all angry.....).

My best results have come from physically spotting and catching the moles. If I'm in a good mood and the conditions are right, I can dig them out or flush them out with a hose, and then put in a bucket to relocate. I generally get a six-pack and wait them out while relaxing after a day of yard work. Otherwise, if I don't have the time but spot one, a good stomp with the heel of my work boot usually does the trick.

Once a landscaper showed me a trick, where you put a shovel across a tunnel at a 45-degree angle, and the moles will come along and dig their way out of the ground right up along the shovel.

In the old days they had traps that fired a 12 gauge shell down into the ground when tripped. The benefit with those is that you always knew when you got one (usually in the middle of the night).

At our new place in the country, there are mole tunnels everywhere in the woods and around the building site. It was all undisturbed forest before we cleared it. I think I am going to have to learn to live with them out there, but I also won't care so much about having a fine lawn.

Ultimately-yes. Even if you were successfull in getting rid of them all one year, new ones will return so it is a battle that will never end but can be gratifying when you get them. I was toying with the idea of installing mole barriers throught the important part of my property (similiar to root barriers).

They have done alot of damage on my property, one dug under the entire length of one side of the steel inground pool wall. The wall dropped to the point where it is pulling from the steps and cracking it. I am in the process of rebuilding it and making it mole proof (at least I hope) but it is money and time consuming. I may just rip it out and out in an above ground model in the end or just rip it out all together. They also dig tunnels under my row of green giants which leaves them to the mercy of voles and air pockets.

For the mole hills I just use a rake and blend the dirt in. In the meanwhile I will continue to try and rid of them, only been able to get two so far :( April is when they have their little pups by the way.

Please do a search on TBN for moles. There are several very good threads about it.

The problem with getting rid of their food source (worm and grubs) is you end up with a sterile growing medium for grass. You will have to work harder and use more chemicals to maintain your lawn VS controlling the mole population through trapping.

I recommend the Victor Out O Sight mole traps. They are quick and humane and rarely miss when tripped.
