DK45SE HST won't start

My DK45SE HST won't start .
the first sign of trouble was a few weeks ago when it didn't start and i moved the range lever to high and back tolow then it started. then a week ago it needed many changes of the range lever to then finally start.
Now it doesn't start at all.
It has 104 hours, all manitenance done, full of fuel, battery fully charged. oil marking 2/3 on the dipstick full range.
Any body else that may of had this problem.

I assume you mean it won't crank, not that it won't start. (big difference) I assume all the normal lamps on the dash are lit. (goes thru glow cycle, but the Neutral lamp is not lit? And I assume you have already diagnosed the problem. as the safety switch itself or connection to the switch because of your prior experience with the failure.. I am also assuming that you have made sure that the PTO is turned off, and the cruise is off. I would think the switch is bad or the linkage is misadjusted to the switch. But that is based more on your prior experience than anything else.

yes it acts like it is in low med or high ie does not crank or any noise at all when in neutral .I suspect it is electronic..

I have checked all that you have mentioned.. except for cruise. I will switch the pto on and off to see if that works.

Sounds like the same problem I'm having with a DK40 SE HST. (NEW) I have to turn the key to the "Start" position several times to finally get it to make contact. A question to the dealer about any known problems with this model resulted in the shipment of a new ignition switch. I'll let you know what happens when I install it.

It does sound like a bad connection is preventing the transmission from either recognizing or going into neutral and it will not start if not in neutral. Does the N light light up on the instrument panel?

That would tell us a lot right there, if the N lamp was illuminated or not, if not then the problem is likely the safety switch on the hydro range lever, or its connection. If the N lamp is illuminated but still will not crank, then perhaps the notorious key switch.

Switch sounds likely to be the problem. Is your tractor kept outdoors in the rain? I haven't heard of a lot of DK ignition switch problems yet but the CK guys certainly have had their share and the key works in both!

Not sure. Do a search here with Kioti and ignition switch then you'll be able to read about others experience. I've never had a problem (barn kept tractor) so I have never had to look into it.

Mine goes into L or H easily but M is sometimes tough and I'll bump over to the next N rather than smoothly entering M. I imagine the linkage is a little out of kilter but I've never looked at it or tried to fix it as I can get into M just by trying a few times. An annoyance to be sure.

I'd imagine you also have a linkage adjustment issue. If your tractor is new then ask the dealer to take a look at it.

I have found it much easier to shift when the rpm is at 2000. According to the sticker in my cab the HST tractor is supposed to be run at 2000rpm. While it may only be a coincidence I find it harder to shift at idle.

My DK35se shifts pretty easy.. a lot easier than my L3400HST I have run past M also a few times, but easy to get it back from the second Neutral.

The few times mine was being obstinate, I will touch the forward or reverse pedal and it will usually shift in easily.

i would have the dealer look at it but i bought it in NJ and had it shipped up to maine also fighting with them because the back tire had a gash in it.

Well,the key switch in my DK45S can be disassembled, cleaned, and lubed (and that fixed my no-glow problem). Beware that there are springs and small parts that are easily lost. Also, it's easy to forget the correct parts orientation.

Same thing happend to my DK 45. The key switch was bad. Had a new one put in and all is well. My dealer said this had been a problem on several models. Maybe you could have your dealer mail you a new switch.
