If you order a 3x20 with electro-hydraulic 3rd SCV, you get the cool joystick with the up/down button to control the 3rd SCV:

it appears that you need to first activate the 3rd SCV using a switch mounted on the right console:

My question is, if you then add the diverter valve, is the diverter controlled by the 3rd button (forward button) on the joystick? All of the references I can find indicate that the diverter is activated by a switch located down near the hitch lever. It's not clear if the 3rd switch on the joystick comes into play or not.

Here's the salesmanual page for the EH 3rd SCV. not sure if there is an equivalent for open station tractors. Could not find a similar page for the diverter. Can't figure out how to use that salesmanual other than to search it via google.

The diverter is separate, when you active it. It sends flow to the rear outlets based on the joy/loader stick input. The 3rd SCV operates strictly of the push button.

So the 3rd button on the joystick is not used, or connected?

That little square is not a button. It just looks like one. If I had a diverter, I would be inclined to add a custom button.

Well it's a three position switch, and it controls the 3rd SCV.

ahhhhh! I thought it was a button. Too bad, that would have been sweet to be able to activate the diverter with a button on joystick.

You probably could, I think there is some extra knock outs. You could look on Deere parts, and see what they have for switches.

Interesting, I will see if I can find it on deere parts.

I wonder if it is a switch on my 4720? I didn't tear it apart, but it feels "hollow" under the little square.... You don't feel a "click" when you press it, like when you press the 3rd function rocker switch. It would be the ticket for the diverter.
What would be really cool, is rigging up a "flip-flop" relay... Press the button once to latch the diverter on.... Press it again to unlatch it. That might work good for controlling things behind you.

I have the same handle on my 4110, it's the same one used on the 110TLB's and it IS a switch on mine-it operates my horn.\
Here is an older post: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/110476-joystick-handle-horn-install.html
You can purchase just the membrane part of the switch through JDP.

Thanks Kenny! I did try searching the forum, but somehow missed out on your excellent post.

That is a great idea! Funny -- I haven't even got my tractor yet and I'm already thinking up mods.

I looked closer at my 4720 handle. There is not a switch installed in the little square, but at least I know I can get one if the need arises. I would expect that your 3x20 would not have one either. Just in case you do consider the Flip/Flop concept, they are called "ratchet relays" and are widely available. I've used them for industrial automation controls.
