Built me a new Deer Blind

Nice set up. I did something similar. For those that have access to one - find a place that deals in used warehouse equipment. I got two 14" pallet racks for $100. The rest is easy after that.

Nice blind!!! I see you are from western NY, not too far from me in Oneonta. From the pics it looks like there are no ceiling/roof rafters holding up the metal roofing?? Looks like it is attached to the top plate on the walls only. I am sure you get quite a bit of snow where you are located. You might want to slip in a few rafters to hold up the metal roofing while it is under a snow load. Unless that metal roofing is super thick. You and youre family will have many years of memories hunting out of that blind.

Here is the metal 2.5" steel I beam I ran down the length of the roof in the middle of the 8' Span. I had some 2.25 galvinized box tubing and the the beam fit in perfectly tight diaagonally. I welded plates on the end and screwed the brackets in to the top plate..........Should be good to go. I'll be pouring cement around the posts next time up there..................I

Looks great !!!, I just purchased 106acres in Oneonta and look forward to putting up a similar setup at my place. Hunting season will be here before ya know it.

Nice build, just don't get caught in there during a heavy rain storm, if so, hearing protection is a definite must. I know that my pole barn is defening during a heavy rain. We have been hunting out of what we affectionately call the Hilton(5x8x8). It is not pretty but with nice and padded seats, counter weighted silent open windows, and heater, it sure is nice to go hunting again.

Nice blinds guys! i built a similar one last year 5x8 interior dimensions, 6' tall interior with a framed roof(rubber roofing glued on the top to reduce noise). It's got insulated metal walls and i still need to put the carpet in the interior. i've got to be careful with movement so i cut pieces of 3d blind material that i can push pin into the window frames to customize the opening size. All in all a great winter project ... we dragged it to the site with the quad, that's the way to go. skids are PT 4x4 and are 12' long, worked great. i just laid a couple large rocks onto each end of the skids and it's real solid. Thanks for sharing all the pics!

What are good dimensions for a bow/rifle stand. I am worried that 5' will not let me get full draw with out putting the bow out the window.

forgeblast, that's definitely a concern with even 5' dimension. i thought i'd be ok with my build and drawing after attempting it with just the walls up but it's too narrow without a lot of noisy maneuvering. covering the floor with the carpeting i've got should help with the noise and a more compact bow/shaft package would help immensely with space issues. i don't have the $$ for a separate bow set up.

Thanks crispy, I though it was narrow too. I keep changing my find on where I want my stand. For now its just ladderstands.

Son and I built this two man stand this spring, 4' X 6' inside with a 2' "porch". Put it on 12' 4X4 "legs". Still need to put in chairs (bass boat seats on swivel posts) and carpet to reduce noise.

Am understanding the picture? Meaning that did you build it on the ground and then pull it up with the tractor?

Western NC is where I PLANNED for two years to be, but ended up in similar terrain (SW Colorado). Since you are pictured with a dozer, please tell me your advice for housepad prep on a rocky hillside (not quite as steep as those in NC). Dozer vs excavator?, that is the question! Thanks

Yes, we did....and it wasn't easy. Tractor is only 23 hp, and didn't have the "umph" to get it up. We used car jacks and cribbing to jack the base of the stand about 4' off the ground...from there the tractor did the rest! I told my son, before we got it up, that if it didn't work, we would have a "ground" stand!

vabiker- I have thought of doing it that way but was afraid that as the stand got to the upright position it might have enough momentum to try to keep going and tilt over toward the tractor. Did you have a cable on it to prevent this from happening?

No...but probably would be a good idea. As it came up and nearly vertical I slowed up and it settled in really nice without rocking or tipping.

When I pulled my frame up I had it tied off for the same reason. Once it got to the top the momentum would have pulled it over. You can see the ropes in my build pictures with the Quad tied to the frame.
