My best guess is that it's a 1953, what do y'all think?

1953, give or take a year...
Very nice restoration!!

Reminds me of my grandfather's farm truck which was a little older and less colourful - 1948 dark blue 1 ton - but it had the same style cab, even the corner windows. They were tough trucks in their day. Thanks for posting.

Yeah...reminds me of my great uncle's '54 3/4 or 1 ton he used to deliver ice. Like most of the men in my family (father's side), he was a serious drunk.
His truck was dark green...similar to what is called "Forest Green" now.

What memories we have from our childhoods, I knew one of my uncles for 10 years before I caught him sober.

I had one like that in 1973. It was called a 1953 1/2. If memory serves me correctly, it was called this because of the rear window configuration. Mine was a half ton with a three speed on the column. It had a habit of sticking in gear between second and third gear. I always carried a brass hammer with me and I would crawl underneath from the driver's side and tap the linkage to correct the problem. It was a 1/2 ton. I bought it for $300.00 and sold it two years later for $1200.00

BTW, the starter button was on the floorboard next to the gas pedal.

My Grandpa had a 1951 Chevy coupe with the starter pedal on the floor and a 3 speed on the column.

I have an Uncle who built s similar truck. Looked like it just rolled off the factory floor in the early 1950's. Except...

He mad his 4x4. No huge lift and monster tires. But 4x4, cut the axles down himself( he is a great mechanic and fabricator). It has the straight six, but he found some 1950's hot rod parts for it; Fenton header, dual carb intake etc. I have not seen it in a couple of years, but it was gorgeous. And I'm a Mopar guy :D

GM must have never sorted out that issue. My first vehicle was a '69 Chevy half ton, 3 on the column. Those things were known for hanging up in second gear. Used to have to get out, raise the hood and manipulate the linkage by hand.
Finally gave up and bought a Hurst floor shift conversion kit.
