We square baled today ... the bermuda was so thick using the V-rake even when we raked only half of its ability and just put 1 an 1/2 cutter swaths together the windrow was still so big to feed into the square baler ... set the back of the rake as narrow as possible just so it wouldn't plug and man it was something ... Am going to rake again and capture what was missed ... all the equipment worked well ... also rolled some of the junk grass around the pond ... cow hay didn't want it mixed in with the bermuda....enjoy.

OOPS ... almost forgot .... Don't know if we had enough HP on the 336 sq baler!!!!!!!!

Just slightly under powered. If it would have jammed you would not have had quite enough power to sling the broken parts out of the field. A few more horses and you would not have had to worry about getting any of the 336 cought up in the new baler next time in the field.

Nice looking hay by the way. We are probably gonna try to cut the second cutting next week and bale on the weekend. Tat way we don't have to store the square bales until folks can get a day off to come get them. Selling them straight out of the field is a lot less hassle.

I see you remembered your camera today. Great shots, you have a nice place there. I like your green equipment too.

Your right ... if the 336 would have come apart we could have gathered it up with the round baler .. throw a little net wrap on it and head to the scrap yard. Its next to impossible to get folks to come and get the hay in the field ... they say they are on the way and don't come.

We bale squares for our horses and whoever is in the field with a truck and trailer. "On the way" don't cut it. If they aint there we roll it. They can either get it next time or from somewhere else.

We would not even bother with it at all if it were not for a few in the family, including myself, with horses. We are not trying to sell nearly the hay it seems you are. We probably sell about 1500 squares a year and whatever surplus rounds there are.

Blueriver:That looks like the tractor(one pulling square baler) my old hay guy pulled rake/5x6 baler combo with. 6cyl? He said that his 6cyl.pulled and got better fuel mileage compared to his 2 other newer JD's with 4cyl. on his cutting tractors. Its Nice but were is the new DEERE hiding out at? My father took my cutter off tractor when he was done with pasture in front of his house and he came to me just a cursing about it,the next day:laughing:

I dont get much waste even using hay rings I make them eat it before I put out 2more. There are usually some cows that will still eat on the stuff thats left on the ground even when I put out new,so they dont have to fight the others or wait there turn. I have been wonting to get a 3point hyd.un-roller but with hay rings dont have to put out hay everyday, like I would have to un-rolling one. I go back later and burn were I feed hay for that winter and drag it with 12ft drag.

It is the 6 cylinder ... talk about an air ride !!! Most comfortable tractor (I Think) ... the new (to me) deere was cutting hay out side of the camera zoom!!!! Thats another nice machine ... the 5520 with the air ride seat is awesome .... turning radious stinks.

We rolled 8.85 acres this afternoon and got 20 bales 4x5.5 ... not bad.

BTW ... I recall the first few times taking the cutter off ...a few cuss words!!! The more practice the easier and faster it gets.

Speaking of grapples I learned something about them .... my 336 went down .... got the neighbors and never thought to check the bale length. They accumulated very well but the first couple grapple attacks failed ... we couldn't get the front 2 bales. Turned out his baler was putting out 42" bales and that put the total length at 102" .... so we ended up grabbing 8 out of the 10 and leaving the two front bales and then re accumulating those into stacks of 8 .... the system is designed for 36" bales ... total 90" to lay nicely on those 8' wide trailers...anyway thought that was interesting. I've always told my customers to be sure the baler is set for 36" bales .... and then I failed to check it ... anyway it worked

He actually bought a new Deere to pull his combo and used it once and then went back to using the older tractor and put the new tractor on the cutter. He said it was hands down way more comfortable and pulled twice as good. I would like to buy me a New or Newer bigger 2x4 cab tractor without a loader just for shredding and the baler but putting wife threw Nursing school and raising 2 boys,I dont think its in the budget this year, maybe when she gets a nursing job she will buy me one:D

Thats really good yield on 8acres:thumbsup:

My father is gonna haul some cows over to lease place in Leona and see if its worth cutting tomorrow,if so will have to start hauling everything over there next time off. I still need to bale the father-in-law up some square bales also. Then hook shredders up and go mow the other lease place in Dew and touch up one of our other pastures(I stay behind). I have put out some more of the Grasshopper fertilizer but the wife got the wrong stuff she got 42-0-0 but going to go ahead, put it out and not say anything, since she helps out alot.

Stay behind? I don't know the meaning of being caught up ... I recall being excited when the kids were all growed up and on there own ... now I beg for them to come home and spend some time !! Then in my case my step daughter gives up on this one and we are raising him, going on 4 years now ... he has turned into a real hand.

So you are likeing the grasshopper? I still have some in the shed from last year ... I guess I could go ahead and put it out.

I am giving the Grasshopper a chance, the 30-8-10 done really well for the price even if I dont bale the grass is up good to turn cows out in.
Now I dont know what this 42-0-0 is going to do but im going to put it out were I can water if needed.
