Mine is HST.

There was plenty IN the filter that was lost, but nothing else came out.

I was not fast... I was slow and methodical.

Just my experience, your mileage may vary sir.

David you did change both the hydraulic and the hydrostat filter right? and no extra fluid came out for either of them? The reason I do not know is because I had drained at least 10 gallons out allready. Also why not drain the 2 plugs at the rear differential/final reduction as at least a gallon came out from them after the middle plug was done.

James,

Yes. I changed BOTH HST and HYD filter.

The HST (Painted on?) was a female dog to get off (I used channel-lock style filter wrench), and because it was sideways, I did not fill the new one.

As far as I recall, nothing leaked out of either one, BUT, I do seem to remember that I did them one at a time (I only had one 5 gallon bucket to catch the drips). Not sure that would make any difference.

Hope this helps.

Interesting. as I had no problem with the horizontal hydrostat filter but the vertical hydraulic filter.. now that was the female dog X 2. Man I struggled with that thing.

DANGIT, now you've got me thinking I'm confused and said it wrong... I'm pretty sure it was the HST filter, but heck...

I mangled the filter getting it off...

I will get to do it again soon (I hope) because I delayed my 50 hr too long, I will hit 100 soon and have to do it again!

Everyone on here has there own ideas about when to change the fluid, but I changed the fluid at 50 and it was dirty. I know the Kubota calls for first fluid change at 400 hours. and just the filters at 50, but I did not like the looks of some of the crap that came out of mine at the 50 hours. I am glad I changed the fluid.

No ratz nest on my Kioti!
I keep her in a heated barn bay with rodent deterents that would terminate anything like that before it got within 10 feet of the Kioti!:confused2:

Another tip for filter removal is to use any grit sandpaper to go under the wrench, facing the filter's painted surface. This helps keep the wrench from turning instead of the filter. Every little bit helps with these beasts!

CM,

SOLID ADVICE!

That one I'm stealing!

If you were changing the fluid you would drain from all plugs. The intention of this drain was to avoid uncontrolled fluid gushing out when replacing the filter but the fluid is not yet due for replacement.

Maybe for the next scheduled change of filter only, I'll trial the quick swap option and see how it goes.

.......Then filled the front I am not sure how much there but probably less than 2 gallons. I had the wife watch the sight glass on that one.

The front axle oil capacity of my CT335 (same tractor in white) is listed as 8 quarts. Filling it by the top plug on the axle tube and the sight glass only took about 6 quarts. I had to remove the upper plug at each wheel end to find where the rest of the oil was needed. Each wheel end took close to another quart to fill up to the plug hole. In total I put 7.5 quarts back into the front end and still left some space at the top of the glass.

You might want to peek into the upper plugs on the wheel ends and see if they are full of oil or not. Mine needed some help to fill.
