Waxed my Deere yesterday and of course I always end up getting wax on the black plastic parts that cannot be buffed out, ditto when I do one of our cars and get wax on flat black painted areas. The attachment shows what I have been using as a wax remover/protectant for black plastic. Of course the product is no longer available, too bad because it was simply the best I ever found. Anybody got a recommendation for a product that does the same? Thanks.

When I was a kid we used Windex to remove it.

Windex sometimes has ammonia, which will dry out plastic and vinyl. Another forum I belong to suggested I try using Protect-All.

I too, have that problem Bill, but I find the best cure is prevention.

If I'm waxing something with parts I don't want waxed, I put some masking tape over the edges of the plastic so the wax won't adhere to it.

If wax does somehow get onto the plastic however, I normally find that plain water, or water with a bit of car wash works a treat to get it off, if you work quickly though.

Its just a tractor, take it out, get a little dust on the black plastic with the wax and you wont even notice it:D Next time be more careful with how you waste your wax.
I would bet that a good dish washing liquid like Dawn or Palmolive and a scrub brush would take it all right off. Most of the waxs are petroleum distillate products so anything that cuts grease should remove it.

Actually I use Dawn dish soap to remove the wax from the truck before I apply a new coat maybe a little on a rag would take it off the plastic haven't tried it but cheap test!

Boy I'd hate for you to see my JD with it's natural outdoor luster....However, back on topic it looks like this question has been asked over on a detailing forum with some followup..... Black Magic Total Shine - Autopia Forums - Auto Detailing & Car Care Discussion Forum . PS - I used to use kerosene on to wash and protect my cars back in the early 70s. So I wouldn't be surprised if the label has some type of non-volatile petroleum product in it....Cheers, Gary

I use a product called Zaino to wax my Challenger. It has a lot of stripes and plastic that makes regular wax not work well on it. Its not really a wax, I think they call it a polish, but its really a man made wax. It works really well, and you can actually use it on black plastic items to keep them protected. The only problem with Zaino is that it doesn't have a lot of cleaner in it, so you have to start with a fairly clean surface.

I'll look into that product David, it sounds great!

As it stands, I currently use Car Pride Liquid Wax.

No joke....peanut butter. Just rub it on the plastic where the wax is and it will remove it.

Use Turtle Wax Express Shine. Sprays on clear & won't turn white on Black or colored items.
Works real nice, no hard buffing. Just spray and wipe.

By "fairly clean" do you mean a lack of dirt or a lack of weathered and faded paint? As for me, I would never consider using any wax or polishing product on either dirty or weathered finishes. I will check into that product....thanks very much.

By "fairly clean" I mean not a lot of tar, tree sap, that kind of stuff. Some waxes will take that stuff of as it has quite a bit of cleaner in it. Zaino doesn't have a lot of cleaner in it, though it will take some junk off the paint. I use a clay bar if I really want to get a clean surface.

JD - Zaino is a very good product and probably is one of the best that provides long term durability. If you decide to try it, don't get to caught up in having to use all their steps of polishes. If you have a good decent finish to start with, you'll be fine with the Z2 polish. If you want to polish and remove swirls and minor defects, then use the ''all in one" polish first.

Zaino is all I use on my vehicles. I polish and seal them once sometimes twice a year (usually once) and Zaino gives me that long protection. I usually do two coats and use the ZFX additive.

I've only found one Zaino product I didn't like, and it was the "all in one" polish. It just didn't seem to hold up as well as the Z2. A friend of mine said to try the polish that is also suppose to remove swirl marks, he says it does a good job of cleaning also.

The wax I use on all our vehicles is "Black Magic Wet Shine" liquid and I have been very happy with it with one exception:

Unless you apply it in direct sunlight, which is not recommended, it is VERY reluctant to dry to a haze which makes it a huge PIB to buff off.

I don't use their all in one polish. I polish out defects with another product than do an alcohol wipe down so the Z2 or Z5 will adhere properly. I prefer Zaino's durability over most others. Its hard to get 3 -6 months out of carnuba wax, I get roughly a year with Zaino.

General Lee...what you say about Zaino....makes me wonder if you live in a hot and sunny climate or one that is cool and wet, etc. The reason I stick with the Black Magic wax despite it's slow drying is that it pretty well suits the climate I live in.
