Goober is gone...

You guys won't believe this....I was watching Wheel of Fortune tonite, and the winner of the show had her family watching her from the stage, and she told everybody that one of her sons (a big, roly-poly black kid) was named "Goober". I told my wife "WHO would name their kid Goober...and then I saw this thread.

Bet your right Dan, come to think of it, did they even have ratings then other than "R"?? I dont remember any except for the adult driven stuff.

Old comedy was good , original work that probably wouldn't do good now on primetime. I Love Lucy as mentioned, along with many others (F Troop, Gomer Pyle and of coarse Gilligans island, M.A.S.H.), Heck even the newer stuff like Bob Newhart, Cheers had some good clean humor.

I hate to say this but the old TV shows are good history lessons.

Looking back at those series and comparing them with what is on today and you can really see the changes in this country. Not all good changes either. Bill Cosby could make you laugh with out scatological and adult references. Home Improvement was not too bad from what I can remember. Everybody Loves Raymond was maybe PG because of the language and content.

Barney Miller was very funny and the kids could watch it. That show really is historical in that they were talking about the Space Shuttle and how safe/unsafe it could be. Then there was Harris's investments in the Gold market. There are some lessons there for today's gold bugs.

Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver are just timeless. Funny shows that will always be funny. For some reason I never like I Love Lucy. Not sure why but I did not like the shows as a kid and I used to watch alot of the old TV series in reruns. Even Phil Silvers Show.

Cheers is pretty clean compared to the latest shows...

If we had had twin boys we were going to name them Gomer and Goober!
