used x300

Im looking at a used x300 it has the kawasaki 17hp engine and 42" deck it has 400 hours on it would this be worth $1500? It has some cosmetic problems scratches on the deck pan on one side looks like the past owner rubbed an object like every time he move when going around it then the plastic part are faded a bit so i think it was proably stored outside. It is an 06 model i believe here is the seriel number mox300c016320. Is this to many hours to buy what kind of maintenance things should be done at this many hours is there any worries about the tranny? How to test if everything is good when i go look at it again? I wish i could mow my whole yard with it i think that would tell me the tranny is good.

In just sold my X300 for 2,100. It was two years old and had about 90 hours on it. I didn't like the way it cut and I was worried about the transmission, so I sold it before any problems came up.
If I were you, I wouldn't buy an X300 unless the price was really right (less than 1,000). I would thihk that the tranny on the machine you are looking at is ready to crap out.
