Was looking at information my wife has for the plant sale her Master Gardener group is having this Saturday in Placerville, Ca. I was amazed, they plan to have over 900 heirloom tomatoes. I don't think I have ever seen that many tomatoes, except in a farm field!

Keep an eye out in your local area's; it is the time of year these groups have sales. There are usually some really great plants!

Heirlooms are great; glad to see that they are making a comeback. I planted some Cherokee Purple and Mortgage Busters.

Try some ox heart heirlooms..We grow them rather than romas. There are two to three times as big as a roma and very prolific.

One of my all time summer favorites! Nice fresh tomato, cut thick, on a slice of bread, little salt, and a dash of mayo.

Only two things that money can't buy: that's true love and homegrown tomatoes.:)

All of this tomato eating talk has got to STOP right now!! I mean, a guy can only take so much. My spinach is just barely poking up above ground and it's painful to think about how long we have to wait until that first tomatoe/egg/toast breakfast! :D

I would top that off with some fresh, chopped green onion (which, by the way, we are enjoying right now in great abundance).

One guy said he didn't sell Heirlooms because they were ugly, I said they eat purty! I don't care what they look like!:D

Add a side of fried banana's to that, and I'd be in heaven :D

Scramble some eggs, make a big ol' batch of sausage gravy, put the tomatoes on top of the eggs and pour the whole mess over some homemade biscuits and my Lord you done made a meal fit for a king!

Just google Heinz tomato seeds and you'll get lots and lots of info. Remember though that Heinz has been producing variants and varieties for a century. There are literally hundreds of numbered versions.
Heinz 1439, Heinz 1439 Tomato, Heinz, Heinz Ketchup, Heinz Tomato, Heinz Tomatoes, PI 341137, Tomato, Tomato Seeds, Tomatoes, Seeds, Seed Catalog, Vegetable Seeds, Lycopersicon esculentum, Heirloom Tomato, Heirloom Vegetables - Reimer Seeds

Thank you so Much for your info..I do use Google once in a while...Sometimes, what grows well up North, might not do well here. I had especially bad crop last year.. I'm trying all kinds of tricks. I even bought The Tomatoe Book???BTW, I bought Mr. stripey and Super Fantastic last year, they did not do well..??

This is turning in to an interesting thread about a New World fruit.

For all the tomato suaces etc in Italian food, it is hard to imagine they have only had tomatoes for a few hundred years.

Good thing they got tomatoes, they were getting tired of olive oil and goat cheese!:D

We don't have a very friendly tomato climate here, 90 day tomatoes seem to take 120. Some friends have had limited success with the heirlooms. I will be trying them this year. I miss tomatoes that taste good, like a tomato should taste like. I don't know what seeds she has given me, and it was a mixture but I don't care what they look like, just looking forward to the taste.
