Tried to jumpstart the mower with my battery charger connected to the battery last week and shorted something out in the system. Bought a new starter solenoid and put it on this afternoon. When I attempt to reconnect the battery, the starter tries to engage with no key in the switch. Could the ingnition switch be burnt up as well. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Any chance the + and - terminals were switched when the charger was connected?
If so, might have blown something that way. What symptom caused you to replace the solenoid? Just intuition?

Now that it wants to start when connecting the battery, is there a chance a wire is on the wrong terminal?

But don't have any good ideas at the moment, but suspect some will read and fffer some help.

Try connecting only the battery pos wire to the main solenoid post and not other wires. If the starter still cranks the solenoid is a dud.
