I really don't know how the hydrostatic works but in my mind your problem sounds just like when a torque convertor goes out on a transmission. Please keep us posted if they did fix it or just put a band aid on.

Another update. I got it home last night and mowed with it a little bit. It seemed a lot better, but there was a couple of times I though it faltered a little bit, but then it took off. I pulled a couple of pretty steep hills and it seemed O.K. I'm just going to run with it and see how it does. It still will bother me in the back of my mind though.
Put it against a tree in lo range and see if all 4 spin.

Exactly, find out if it is broken or not. You are going to feel bad until you know and get it fixed.

Would the hill make a difference with the fluids running to the rear??? If it spins all four on flat ground against a tree will it spin all four going up hill???

Could be, if fluid is low ... or some other problem with the oil pickup in the trans. With fluids right the tractor trans should work fine, even on a 30 degree slope. Beyond that incline there are serious traction and tipover issues.

Doubt very seriously that it is low on fluid. If that was the case it wouldn't go even in 4wd.

That is the confuser. Should be impossible for the fronts to work w/o the backs working. OP has mentioned he is unsure of it now.

Its not low on fluid. One of the problems I had when I was testing it yesterday was when I tried to climb a hill. It wouldn't go up it in low range, so I put it in high range, it wouldn't go up it, but then I almost floored the HST pedal, and it went up it. You could hear the engine drag down. At this point, I thought I still had a problem, but then I tried some other hills, in low range, and it worked fine. One hill was on the back slope of a ditch in front of my house, and is very steep, about as steep as you can go safely, and it went up it fine. Its without a doubt better, but I will just have to use it and see how it goes.

Another issue I had, which may be realated or not, I had a mouse build a nest near the intake of my air cleaner. It sucked it in a clogged up most of the air cleaner. I had this problem when I first noticed it wouldn't climb a hill. I cleaned it out and put in an older used air cleaner. I still had the old air filter in the machine when I tried it out yesterday. I have a new one to put in today, but its raining so it will have to wait to test again another day.
