Wonder how many people actually look at the oil at the 50hrs service?
I didn't want to spill oil swapping the filter and cleaning the screen, so I drained the oil.....
It looked dark! So I filled it with new oil, good thing I drained the oil....

I remember when I changed the transmission fluid at 50hrs on my BX, I happened to be outside and remember all the tiny little metal particles in the oil glistening in the sunlight as it drained out. I don't know how much wear comes from all those particles, but has to be some. With a hydrostatic drive, I feel changing the oil was money well spent.

I agree. Did mine at 50 hours too. Philip.

I have always used kubotas udt. 3 machines, thousands of hours of commercial year round use over the last 13 years, never had a single tranny issue!

Many good diesel oils are dark to start with. Or will be within a few hours of operation.

I agree that we should follow the manufacturer's recommendations, but the color of the drain oil in a diesel doesn't tell us much.

I agree. Unless you are superman, fluid color does not say much (unless you have collant in it)..

I agree, the color doesn't tell us everything but I also saw some metal parts glistening in the sun...
Attached a picture, again color doesn't mean everything...
