Is there a GOOD FIX for Dmax Tranny Cooler Lines

At least aftermarket lines are available. I was crawling under our Chevy HHR and I see that both tranny cooler lines are leaking. GM lines are the only replacement available. Now I just have to figure out how to top off the "sealed" transmission.

Nice, seems like the same crappy design.

The sealed trannys I have been around have a sight plug like a gear box that you use a pump to get the fluid in.

Good luck.

Its not my call. Its under warranty and he wanted them to fix it. The carrier bearing is not covered under warrant which makes no sense to me since in my eyes its part of the powertrain but GM says no.

Chris

That's just plain foolish. The aftermarket kit can be had for about $100 and after you install it your done with it. For me my time is worth more than messing around at the dealer, warranty or not.

HHR, just replace the lines with hydralic hoses. A local hydralic shop can set you up with them. Not sure on the HHR but the GM lines need to be at least 300psi rated.

Again, not my call. If you look back through this thread I tried to get him to let me do a upgrade.

Well its in the shop and will not be ready for 3-4 days. Looks like a new seal on the transfer case. New tranny cooler lines. New carrier bearing. And the mechanic says the drive shaft needs replace also or at least one ends yoke. They may not have a answer on that till Thursday.

Sounds like his truck was built on Friday. :(

Does he power wash the underneath of the truck? If so, recently GM started telling customers to avoid spraying the transfer case, because the seals they use are **** and a power washer will penetrate them easily.

No, he is a car wash type of guy, not a DIY guy.

I think its all related. It was never fixed right the first time. The Seal and Carrier Bearing have been replaced once before at around 50,000 miles but it looks like now the drive shaft is bad. The did replace a U joint in it once also about a year ago.

My feeling is the play in the drive shaft yoke at the carrier bearing is what is causing the transfer case Seal and the Carrier Bearing to fail.

Could be. I have seen bad ujoints take out the center support on RWD Volvos "oh its just a bad center support" 10k miles later, it needs redoing.
Anyways, I am glad it isnt my truck that this is happening to and hope that the dealership makes it right this time.

Well he took it in a week ago Friday to get the repairs done. They could not believe he made it there with the carrier bearing being as bad as it was. It took 3 days to fix it and he go it back on Tuesday.

By Thursday it was leaking at the transfer case worse than it was before it was taken in. The seal looks weak at best and my guess is the transfer case will have to be replaced again but its back in the shop again. I took him over this evening to drop it off again.

Sounds like lousy technicians to me (and they can live under any sign)...I don't think this is the truck's fault.
