Snowfall 20% above average in January

...in Marquette County, Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are still 10% below normal and the snow depth is about 20% below normal for the season as our temperature has been above average this winter.

I just wonder if things have got more normal elsewhere.

I snowblowed 5 times in December and 6 times in January. This week the high has been right around the freezing point, so a small amount of melting.

Biggest drop here (Roch. NY area) so far has been about 3". Haven't even had my plow attached for weeks. I'm more than happy after last year's snowfest.

Last year at this time We had 80" of snow this year there has been a total of 40". That's what happens when you buy a blower for the 2011 - 2012 season.

Last year was historical for exceptional amounts of snow and this year all time records are being broken with warm temperature and virtually no snow.

We are about 50" below normal for snow this year. Temps have been above normal also and my heating bill shows it:thumbsup:.

smfcpacfp, I used to be stationed at K.I. Sawyer back in 88-89(wow, many moons ago!). I remember the snow piled so high that people had to dig out the first story windows of their houses. The base used to pile the snow on one area of the ramp using those big Oshkosh blowers. That pile wouldn't completely melt till late July or so. I lived in Gwyn (sp?) and always went to Helen's Iron Skillet for dinner. I hope the area up there is doing ok with the base closed.

Just checked my hour meter. I have less than 8 hours of snow blowing so far this winter. Most years I spend 60 to 90 hours moving all that lake effect snow we receive around here. Where's the snow?

Not much of anything here yet this year. But a few years ago we had a winter like this and on Valentine's day we got a dumping of over 3' with a second dumping of over 2' on St Patty's day. What as been a pain is the fact that things keep melting then freezing. That means putting down sand. Of course that's just got me looking for a good 3 pt sander.

I want a sander that I can hook to my bucket so I can sand behind my 3pt snowblower. I don't know where the power would come from - maybe a small hydraulic motor. Think something like that exists, or do I have to invent it?

Incidentally, all I see is grass everywhere. I can live w/o spending a half day out of every weekend clearing snow like last winter, but this is wreaking havoc with my ski season, I'll tell you that.

Someone was right. Come up here to alaska. It is a record year up here. Cabin has 6' of compacted or compressed snow. I have never seen it this deep up at the house. Today it is coming down inches an hour. already 7" on the ground since 8 AM. And supposed to get another 8" before it is over. I blew snow last night for 2 hours and will do so again tonite. Gosh I love this enclosed 5740. If you all want to come up and take turns, let me know. The skandic superwide is having troubles getting around in all this stuff.
