are theses drill bit sharpners any good, will use non-commercially, just to sharpen 20-30 bits a year???

I honestly don't know. Never tried one.

My dad sharpened his bits on a bench grinder. No jig, nothing. Seemed to be able to do it pretty well. As for me, I don't bother. I buy new bits when I need them. I don't buy the ones at the box stores. Good bits don't come in blister packages. I get mine from an industrial supply.

Got one for Christmas maybe 7-8 years ago. Works great for me, and probaby sharpen about that many on a year on it. Nice for touching up.

I love mine. The grinding wheel is diamond, so the finish is so smooth and perfect the bits cut as good as, or better than, new.

The model 500 and 750 will do split points according to their website.

Certain models sharpen split points as well as turning ordinary drill bits into split points. I think mine is the 750, and sometimes I love it, sometimes I don't. I am personally better using a bench grinder, even the real little bits. I mostly use the DD for getting the nice angles, then try it out, then head to the grinder and make it actually cut.

I recommend the DD. I also suggest that if you do get one, keep after the bits. If you give a bit a good workout...... touch it up before you put it back in the index. It takes a little practice to get the feel for it. Keep em cool!

I got in the habit of inserting the drill bit upside down in the drill index when i felt it wasnt cutting the best it could. After i had 4-6 of them upside down, i bring out the DD and sharpen those up.

Has been working great.
