Kubota BX1800
I am new owner of a used BX1800 and live in N. VT. I wanted to snowblow my drive this morn but couldn't it started. I suspected that I wouldn't since it was -5 out. I am looking to get a block heater. I found the part number and am looking for any advice on the install. Looks like the freeze plug is in the front behind the muffler? Does anyone have a picture of the heater installed that they could post? Any tips on the install? I found some installation pictures around here for other Kubota models but nothing specific the 1800. Thanks so much for any help!!!!

Welcome rynovt,

You've come to the right place for information! I did a block heater install on my JD2305 with the help of the good folks on this forum. In the time that it has taken me to type this greeting someone else has already probably answered your question.

Good Luck.

Frank

What model engine is in your BX1800?

On my BX1850 it has the D722 and the only heater I could install was in the lower radiator hose. It is a zerostart model 3200001. The frost plug unit goes into the head above the flywheel and behind the exhaust. On the 1850 there is no room due the muffler being in the way.

Attaching instructions on how to install them.

oldnslo....thanks for the install instructions and the idea for the zerostart. It has been too cold and dark for me to venture out and inspect the machine to see what might work best. Seems like the radiator heaters are pretty easy to install if the hose it right there. Less intimidating than knocking a hole in your block too.

Any other folks have a block heater on their 1800? Pictures....please:)

Hi, I have the same issue. I have a Kubota Block heater for my BX2660. Today I tried to figure out how to install it and like you, my heater goes into the freeze plug right behind the muffler and at this point, I'm not sure I want to go through all the trouble of taking out the muffler and pulling the plug from the block. I might have to break down and bring it to the dealer.

What did you end up doing? My part number was 70000-73595 400 Watt heater. Instructions say to remove the front plug (Kubota P/N 15321-96260). By looking at some engine part diagrams, it appears to be in the "hard to get" spot.

I haven't done anything yet, but I did find an older post that had a picture attached and a little more info.

Thanks for the update. I just called my local dealer and made arrangements for them to install the heater. I'll take a couple pictures when they return the tractor (pickup is on Friday and return on Sat or Mon). Good thing there is no snow in the forecast. I took a look at the instructions in the box that the heater came in. It does call for the removal of the freeze plug but this is where I am a bit confused. The instructions say it is located on the front side of the cylinder head next to the air intake breather. Well, looking at diagrams of the engine, I did find one near the air intake (but not the breather) and one in the front (which is actually the rear of the engine since the engine is mounted toward the driver) ... so, to be safe, this one will be left to the pros. With my luck, I'd remove the "wrong" freeze plug.

That would great if you post the pictures. Hopefully I'll then have enough guts to knock a hole in my engine.

Hi, I just got my tractor back from the dealer with the block heater installed. It was picked up on Friday along with the block heater that I had purchased a year ago. When I got it back, it turns out that they installed a different block heater than the one I gave to them. The new one screws into the block on the right hand side near the starter. There is a plug that you remove with a rather large Allan wrench and the block heater screws in in its place. This is a much easier install than removing the freeze plugs.

I took a couple pictures but did not remove the cowling as I had just reinstalled the snow blower. This coming weekend, I will remove the cowling and take some better pictures.

That's a sweet looking install. How much did it run you? This winter sure hasn't forced me to do anything on my BX2230, but if I needed to, that would sure be a nice way to do it.
