This is a great thread and also reminds a lot of us that the world ain't all sunshine and flowers. I'm praying for the day IL passes the CCL. I live just outside Rockford, IL which has a higher crime rate then Chicago and is one of the top 50 most dangerous cities to live in. All I can say is this. When I turn 21 in a month and can legally have a handgun in my possession, there will always be a loaded 357 under the slide out console in my truck and when Im night fishing below the dam on the river by myself, I may or may not have a little steel persuasion tucked in my boot in case you want to mug me.

I don't care whether its legal or not. I'd rather get in trouble for havin somethin I shouldn't have then be dead for not havin somethin I should've had. Plain and simple.

Yamamoto made clear that the Pearl Harbor attack was an attempt to knock the US out of the war. The Japanese never ever wanted to invade or conquer the USA. They just wanted to insure their hegemony over the Pacific, especially their trade routes and access to natural resources. Saying that "a rifle behind every bush" was the determining factor in their strategy is just naive BS propagated by gun enthusiasts. Yes they would have failed had they invaded but that was not the reason they did not invade. The US led embargoes on Japan forced them to either bow to our demands or to seek a way to prevent us from interfering. Taking out the Pacific fleet was designed to prevent us from interfering with their efforts to control eastern and southeastern Asia.

Another very nice .357 Magnum is the 7 shot Taurus Tracker.
This is a nice house gun with one caveat: It's ported...so it's loud!

For those of you who want a slightly smaller revolver, the Ruger SP101 is a good house gun and quite easy to carry on your hip.

However, IslandTractor's anecdote about that lady who was kidnapped did have a point. Although it seems that most people who responded to this thread (including me...and I probably carry more often then most of you) carry a firearm, at least occasionally.
However, not everyone is capable or willing...as that lady wasn't. And, she paid the price for not being alert and aware of her surroundings.
Good lesson there...be alert and be aware...and have that weapon (whatever you may use) at the ready.

One thing I have found in looking up data on felony murders (I think that is how the FBI categorizes robbery murders) is who is most and least at risk. About the lowest risk groups in the nation, after under 5 yo children, are women over the ages of 40 and especially over 60. We react strongly whenever we read about one of the rare episodes where an older woman is a victim but they are actually a very low risk group for felony murder. Vast majority of murders in that group are committed by family members.

I've got all 3 of those, looks like the 66 is near collectors status now.
The Model 66 sold for just over a hundred dollars back in the 70's, pretty safe investment.

My snubby 66 looks a little smaller than the one in your picture, just looked at it briefly yesterday. Maybe I'm mistaken, cause how could it have much shorter a barrel with the extractor plunger right there.
