Ever Felt Threatened Enough That A Pistol Was Needed?

Once. I was getting gas. In hindsight I had trapped myself in, I don't do that anymore. 10 or so at night, gas station off of I40 off by itself, no other business around and outside of gas island everything was dark.
Anyway, left truck running, it was cold. Got out and left drivers door open and inserted card and started fueling. The way I was pulled in close and the big concrete post and my door had my blocked in. I turned my back to the pump and was about to get in my truck when I saw a reflection in the open driver side door window, someone was about to step over the gas hose and close in on me. I spun around and was reaching for pistol in an IWB on my right hip under my sport coat with my right hand, I think I threw my left hand out in front of me and was yelling / cussing to get the F away from me. I never cleared the holster and probably wouldn't have had time had he closed in on me, instead he started backpedaling and ran off into the dark on the opposite side of the station. All I remember is he had long hair, some kind of grungy jean jacket and dark sunglasses on and some kind of doo rag / skull cap hat on. It was quick, I don't know if he had anything in his hands or not. It scared the **** out of me.

I have had a rifle pointed at me once from a inside a car for no reason and once a at a fish fry in the panhandle of Texas had a drunk guy pointed a 1911 at me and several others before someone jumped him and about 4 guys proceeded to kick the living crap out of him.

I forgot about the pit bull that attacked me in my yard and had I been packing he would have been shot I certainly had good reason to do so. I am armed always now days and hopefully never will need it now.

I don't feel a need to carry but then my neighborhood isn't full of gun-toting tractor owners where a heated argument over UDT vs SUDT or R1's vs R4's might get out of hand :D

As a civilian, the only time I was in fear for my life from other people was when by mistake, I ended up in Camden NJ at 0100 from Philly. White guy in a VW Golf kind of stuck out.

Take a drive through Camden during the day sometime, let alone at night:laughing:

Awwww, ain't that neat?? Wish that was the bulk of it... Actually I don't carry it enough, but now it is cold enough to need a jacket? Shoulder holster cross-draw type...I have never had to pull it....

About 1 week after moving into our home at around 3:30am my wife and I heard a load crash. Load enough and odd enough to really worth her. I grabbed my glock and tactical light and went for a very. Cautious walk. I found a woman drunk almost passed out on my bill doors. When I shined my light on her she started screaming at me as she got up and started running across my yard.

Another time my wife watched someone try to break into our home. She grabbed my browning 12g and both of our dogs (1/2 boxer 1/2 pittbull mutts) and stood in the foyer with the gun pointed right at the front door window. When she turned on the lights the dogs went nuts and the guy took off. She had called the police who did not show up for almost 10 minutes after the guy took off. I know she would have shot him if he didn't take off. I do not have concealed carry permit because in NJ you have a better chance of being ht by lighting then getting a permit but I have been glad to know I can protect my home and family

I've read the entire thread on pocket pistols listed below, how many folks have actually felt that they were in a situation where a pistol was essential to making it out of a tough spot?
I am 64 yrs old, travel a good bit with my work, and up to this point in my life have never been in a predicament where a gun was needed. Hopefully that will never change but one never knows!
Thanks..........

I have.

Have came home / walked in on 2 robberies, and needed to use an atm at night that someone strangley kept driving around... back then it was the only atm in town :(

I never felt threatened but once I should've had one, while hunting in big woods country a couple years ago.....my one dog (at that time) was running a rabbit after dark and I was waiting for her to give up on it....

with all my firearms left in the truck (in the middle of deer season too), and in the woods 9 tenths of a mile from the truck, coyotes lit up on a war hoop on a fresh kill near my dog......

fearing the worse for my dog, I charged in the black wooded abyss with nothing but a penlight and a 4" swiss army knife, screaming and yelling at the top of my lungs.....basically doing the 400 yd dash, tripping in the mud and stumps......finally reaching the dog (which was not even touched by the coyotes)......

The coyotes must have eaten the rabbit my dog was chasing for 3 hrs and she was next on the dinner menu if she would've had enough time to follow the scent right to her death....the yotes followed us all the way back to the truck.......

Very foolish of me to go in there without my pistol but I had no time to waste....

It was a happy ending that night but lesson learned.....NEVER LEAVE THE PISTOL IN THE TRUCK....
