hydraulic dump trailer clicking

Hello all,
i have purchased a used hydraulic dump trailer. i replaced the battery and pushed the lift dump button and the hydraulic pump started, sounded like it was struggling and then clicked, clicked, clicked. the battery i put in has 550 cranking amps. i tried hooking it up to my truck with jumper cables and starting the lift. but only to get the same result. Click click click. Please help me with this problem. Thanks to all who do.

It sounds like either the battery is bad or one of the connections is bad.

The clicking is the solenoid dropping out when the voltage falls too low.

Sounds like a bad solenoid, check voltage on the outgoing side of it.

If it is a solenoid check ebay. But beware the prices vary wildly on there. I recently had solenoid go bad on my dump also. I checked ebay and could have paid either $80 for a solenoid or $21. I went with $21 and it works just fine.

It does sound like battery issue though.

remove and clean all electrical connections
dump trailers take a lot of power, bad connections or a weak battery are suspect
bad solenoid is also possible
I took my solenoid apart and smoothed the contacts down to make it work again

I vote for bad connection or solenoid. I think 550 is small for dump trailer battery, mine is loaned out or I would look but I think it is around 750 or so marine battery.
