Tough Day For Me

Today I put my dog to rest. Black Labrador Retriever.

Farewll to Gunner Habitat of Oakland, AKC.

It was a good 10 and a half years.

Sorry for that...really tough time.

Our son and DIL and two grandkids just had their 12 1/2 year lab put down.

They got the dog about 6 months b4 oldest of two grandkids was born...both grandkids have not know their life w/o Georgie...she was a great, gentle dog.

You have good memories...TMR

Sorry to hear about your loss, I feel your pain. We put down our female "Sandy" (yellow) of black (male) & yellow twins 2 years ago. She was 10 years old. Our male "Cole" is still doing pretty well, although his age is showing.

Cherish the memories ... As you can see from my avatar, we are dog people too. Our oldest keeshond will be 12 next week and while I dread the day that I'll have to say "Goodbye", I thank God for every day the she is around!

I am sorry. You said it right, dogs are very very important in our lives and happiness.

It is so great when your dog comes running as fast as he/she can when you get home. They only want to say hi, I am glad your home and do you want to play. Dogs love you unconditionally.

Sorry for your loss JD. Been through it many times myself and it never gets any easier. Not long ago I read a good book about dogs which you might enjoy.
It was "A Dog's Purpose" by W.Bruce Cameron. I think dog owners can really relate to the story.

So sorry for your loss. Ruby is our oldest and at 11 we know we have less days forward with our gray faced boxer girl, but we treasure each one.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I wrote this little song about 4 years ago. I think it covers our love for dogs pretty well.

In Memory of Gunner....

It's after the rain and the sun's setting low
I look out my window and the sky is a glow
In colors of yellow, the stars are beginning to show
I think I'll go outside and build a fire
To soothe my soul

I sit in my chair and I think of my day
How a friend had called and said "hey what do you say
We'll go up to Colby and walk the trails in every way"
I said we'll take our dogs and soothe our souls
As we walk in the rain

We talk of the northwoods and the lakes that are there
We plan to go camping with our dogs 'cause we share
We'll walk on the beaches like we don't even have a care
And then we'll soothe our souls out in the fresh mountain air

And when we're done camping we'll come on back home
Prepare for the winter that is long and cold
We'll walk on the trails that are covered in snow
And then we'll come inside
And lay with our dogs
And build a fire to soothe our souls

Oh, here's a Gunner story for you all....

I was walking him in the woods one day several years ago. We came upon a snowmobile bridge and in the middle of the bridge there was....A Skunk.!!! Well, Gunner just had to go check out his newly found friend. He got to the skunk and was sniffing the skunk right where it counts...the a-hole.!!! Get this...the skunk never sprayed.!!!!!! I could not believe it.!!

Of course, however, there were probably 3 other times that he wasn't so lucky. And neither was I.!!......One time his face was soaking, dripping wet with the stink poison. Terrible stuff.

4pm is coming fast now. It won't be long. I feel pretty strong right now. Today for the first time, it feels like he is hugging me back. I'm pretty sure he loves me too.

I feel for you all who have been through it. Time heals all.

Brings tears to my eyes. Our Bubba is my avatar. He's a 8 year old boxer. The only bad thing about these little guys is that they don't live as long as us. They really get into your heart.
