F250 dually????

Did you consider that he might have just put f-250 badges on a f-350?

if you will note in my message I was unsure of exactly what I was looking at. didn't rule anything out.

for all I know he was in a wreck and got 2 fenders and a tailgate from a f250 in a junk yard to repalce his.... long stretch there.. but plausible..

Agreed. I think duallies look better with flatbeds and true work bodies; but I can't stand the look of the glommed on fenders of dually pickups. From the rear they remind me of a fat woman's butt.

A friend of mine put 250 emblems on a 350 because of a work truck covenant in his neighborhood.

A 350 is considered a work truck but a 250 is not? haha, reason #8,233 not to live in one of those neighborhoods..

The only good HOASS is no HOASS. I hate ours.

I've often said if the whole truck was that wide I'd buy one in a minute:thumbsup:

I wouldn't live in any neighborhood that wouldn't allow my dually.

That's why we live in the woods. Our driveway is 4/10th mile long, and we're the only ones here. It's over 1/4 mile to the nearest neighbor.

BTW, I probably wouldn't live in any neighborhood that would have me!

For the 1999 model year, the nearest I can the only real difference between a F-250 SRW and a F-350 SRW are the rear springs.

Yup, that's about it for the differences between F250 and 350. Everything that fits on one will fit the other.

The first time I ever saw a half ton dually pickup conversion was over 50 years ago. A high school buddy and fishing partner had a couple of older brothers who worked as mechanics and put duals on a half ton pickup. They also had a couple of 25 hp Wizard outboard motors with 12 hp emblems so they could amaze people at how fast their 12 hp motors were.:laughing:

But a few years ago, one of my brothers put duals on his 3/4 ton Chevy Suburban for pulling a big travel trailer.

thankis guys.. confirmed what I was thinking.. ie a conversion, and for the most part.. not much more difference than rubber ont he grounsd as axle ratings didn't chenge, even if springs and tire overall contact ratings did.

it was just something curious isaw.. only other think I had seen near was a half ton with fender flaires like a dually.. but with realy, treally wide, srw tires on.. liek the things were 12-14" wide maybee... 'looked' like a dually but was srw.. just darn wide suckers, and needed the extended 'wide but' fenders.

Not sure about that. He could have mounted a F350 dually axle in there, ya know. That would be rated the same as a dually, with the right springs. Of course none of that changes the legal GVWR. Maybe he had a donor handy? Only way to really find out would be to ask him what the deal is, if you ever run into him...

with gvwr not changing.. he's really not gaining much, other than as you said.. he might have had a donor.. and it was cheaper to use that vs buying all new drivetrain.. in which case.. yeah.. cheaper is better

Well, this post stuck in my brain. I was coming back from a funeral this afternoon and caught sight of a dually truck at a car lot in Lake City, Fl... not a big deal, but for some reason I make a U-turn at the light and rode back to see it. Since it wasn't the actually body style I was looking for, I still haven't figured out why I turned around, but I did. Turns out the dually was badged as an F250. I snapped a picture of it, but didn't think to open the door to get one of the GVRW plate inside. Picture is still in my phone, will retrieve it later for posting.

Exactly. Just think of all the storage space potential not being used.

Similar to the "Super Single" rear wheels I'm seeing on tractor-trailer rigs lately. I heard that Ford tried that idea in the 70's or 80's; but I don't know for sure. That would be a good way to get 1-ton dually capacity without the wide butt look, and extra wheels and tires. Of course the downside is if you have a flat on the rear and your spare is for the front only.

The F250 and F350 both come with the 10.5" rear end. Its rated for something like 9000 lbs at the ground but from what I can tell the Dana 80 is used in the pickup dual wheel version of the F350. Haven't checked on the cab and chassis version.

The duals give better stability, and if you're in a state that uses the tire weight ratings, you can up your load capacity.

After about a month I got a letter from the association president pointing out that my truck most likely broke the motor vehicle noise limit. The limit was originally imposed to get rid of motorcycles... The next day I thought I would have a little fun and decided to commute home in my MD500 helicopter. After dropping it my driveway it was not long until the association president showed up bitching and swearing about the noise.... After that they did not seem to have a problem with the truck....


Have since moved to the country but still chuckle about landing in the driveway...

Ford did that on the F-350 Super Camper Special pickups from the mid '70's through '79. I had a '79 F-350 Lariat Super Camper Special with a 460 and auto trans. These trucks had a stretched 140" wheelbase with the rear axle set 7" further back than the standard pickup. They had 12.50/16.5 rear tires and 9.5/16.5 front tires. The spare tire was mounted vertically behind a removable panel on the right side of the bed so it could be reached easier with a slide-in camper mounted on the truck. They started making F-350 duallies in '80.
