A B2630 or BX2660 for a mowing machine?

Also unless I am mistaken the BX is a suspended mower where that B is a contact mower and depending on his lawn that may make a difference also.

Some B tractors use a suspended deck, while others use the floating deck (also known as ground contact). The Kubota site specifies which deck is available with each tractor.

I had a bx2200 with 60"MMM and loved it for mowing hillsides and uneven terrain. It had a suspended deck. I'm now looking at a B2920 with 60" MMM and I know it has a suspended deck as well.

If your choice is between a B and a BX for lawn mowing only, I'll have to say the BX with a MMM is the only choice. The BX is more compact and lighter-and the BX gives as good of a cut as you can get with a tractor mower.

Thanks for the info. I have a Grand L3830 with loader. So not sure I "need" another loader however it sure would be nice! :)

I want a 60" deck for sure. So can the 1860 turn that? I'm all for saving money on this project.

I'm also considering a zero turn but hate to spend big bucks on a machine and only use for mowing! The little tractor can do many other tasks and would be great for dragging logs out of my woods!

Thanks for the help guys. Oh and yes I want a MMM.... the rear mount mower won't work close to the house, etc.

Like others have stated it really depends on the amount of area you need to cut and what other tasks besides mowing you have in mind for it. For just mowing a ZTR makes more sense but it is a single purpose machine were a tractor is a jack of all trades.

I had a similar decision to make last year and I went with the BX1860 w/54" MMM. I wanted something that could get in tight areas and also pull an areator, lawn roller, etc. I also have a GL3240 w/FEL but I purchased the BX with the FEL to as it makes a great motorized wheelbarrow. The BX fits in places that the GL could never comfortably go.

What I think is that you left out a lot of VERY important details.
So:
1) size of mowing area, in acres?
2) terrain of mowing area -- flat, hilly?
3) frequency of mowing -- every week (short clippings), once a month (long clippings)?
4) number of obstacles in mowing area -- none, like a soccer field, or typical wooded back yard with trees and kids jugle gym?
5) how often does it rain during your mowing season? is the mowing area typically soft, medium, or hard?
6) what other tasks are you buying this tractor for?

Wrooster

Okay good point. Here's the answers to your 6 questions.

1. I mow around 2.5 acres at my place. I may mow another 3 acres for someone else... which I why I'm considering the purchase.

2. Terrain is mostly flat and rolling. There is a bank I have to mow... I currently cross the bank instead of climbing it. Only takes 3 passes with a 52 inch mower.

3. Once a week mowing. This is for a home lawn... not a farm field.

4. Not a tremendous amount of obstacles... but certainly not straight and narrow driving like a soccer field. I'm sure more obstacles will be planted yearly.

5. Rains pretty often. I would rate ground as medium firmness.

6. I would like to pull lawn rollers, aerator, seeder, etc with the machine. Basically I'll be using as a garden tractor. I'm not sure how well a ZT would do at this.

The BX that will power the 60" MMM. I've had/have B's, L, BX's and F's. For just mowing the F is the way to go but with the tractor pulling duties needed then the BX.

I have pretty much the exact same situation as you -- and I have a BX1860 with a 54" MMM. The BX1860 will suit you fine if you don't need a 60" deck. You can step up to a BX2360 with the 60" deck, but you are not going to see much if any difference in capabilities considering the tasks you have listed above. I attached a couple of pictures for you to consider ... :)

2.5 acres of mowing + 3 more for someone else = 5.5 acres to mow weekly-which is an awful lot of time in the seat. Now if you are retired and need some good excuse to stay out of the house and out of someone else's hair, then go with the BX2360. If, on the other hand, you have a regular job and time actually matters to you, the BX is NOT the machine you need. Now I have a BX and love it, because it is a multi-purpose machine, which is what I need. For your purposes, an F series is the only answer. You said you need to tow a seeder and an aerator. Some will jump up and say, "You need a 3ph for that," but actually, you don't. These are not ground engaging implements. They are lightweight tow behinds whose attachment points are typically designed for ATVs or lawn tractors. An F series Kubota has two holes in the rear facing portion of the frame (what one might call the rear bumper). It would be very easy to fabricate a little attachment frame that would bolt right into those two holes and pull those lightweight tag alongs.

Talk to your dealer about the F series. Find out where you can test drive one. Look for front machines being used in parks or on golf courses and observe what voracious mowers they are and how fine of a cut they leave. Wrooster has created an amazingly beautiful property with the help of his BX, but you want a machine for cutting and maintaining lawn. I am a loyal BX owner, but your needs do not call for a BX, they call for an F.

Impressive estate you have there! Beautiful setting, house and barn.

I really like that aerator! Who makes it?

Yes there ya go.... try doing all that with a ZTR!!!!! And of course my 6000 lbs 3830 could do much of it... the little tractor is just better suited for the lawn work and landscaping!

Thank you for taking the time to share with all of us your photos and projects. Nice stonework.

You've made good points. What is the cost of an "entry level" F series machine? They maybe out of my budget. I really think they are awesome machines and love the 4wd system. Plus the mower is first to contact the grass so no "mashing" or rutting of the grass before the mower gets there.
