Finally got me a REAL Truck

Looks like a nice truck. I would take a 5.9L over a 6.7L any day. .

No way I'd trade back into a 5.9

It is an auto tranny.

I almost wish I'd gone with that, rather than the 6 speed ....

The wife refuses to drive it with the manual (which is kinda funny, since her car is stick ..... ) .... can be inconvenient at times ....

On the otherhand, there is a definite upside too

sweet truck I have a 04 just like it with 400K+ and just did a tranny job and but would not trade it for anything. My favorite 2 motors 5.9 and 7.3, agree new ones may have more power but hard to beat them for reliablity.

Yeah ..... I hit 4th every now and again when I'm going for 6th .... and occasionally get 5th when I'm trying for reverse (if I'm not paying close enough attention) .... I have more trouble going 2nd to 3rd tho' .....

The problem isn't finding 3rd in the pattern, it's just getting it to actually go in gear ....

The trick is go up to 3rd ..... and then pull the stick slightly towards ya just when you start to encounter resistance .... drops it right in ..... :thumbsup:

I just rolled 11K on the clock .... might loosen up some once I get more miles on it.

Nice truck. You did good by getting a 5.9 I had a Hemi 2500 and it ate 2 trannys, maybe just my bad luck.

By the way Dodge and Ford are real trucks with real front axles.

And if your truck needs the recall for not being in park, don't install it. Put the stinkin thing in park, and make sure it's in park.

That horn will blow whenever it's in gear with the door open or part way open or just kinda latched but you're just driving into the shop for an oil change. It is the single, most annoying thing I have ever had to deal with on a vehicle.

My factory u-joint went at 70,000. The Mopar replacement is still in there & tight at 220,000.

It is a problem to back up with out opening the door to get a better look. found out the brake controler touched to get red light will defeat the alarm . so must be connected to brake light switch.
A recall put it in my truck and dealer said could not remove. Took a while to learn how to back with door shut.

Yeah...OK....Anything that isn't GM is good with you..This has gotten really old.

Not true. I have owned more GM cars than any other single brand. GM trucks I do not care for, especially when it comes to HD trucks. I just feel they should be solid front axle.

Unless you abuse one ie chip the truck its hard to mess them up. Mine was just plan wore out. The guy that did this one seemed to best guy around even the dodge dealer said he was the go to guy. The truck seems to shift better than ever.
And as fyi 2nd tranny in 400k not bad as trucks whole life has been in the everybit of max gross with trailer on it.
I am a Ford guy but I do love the 5.9

I, too, got tired of half-ton trucks and bought an '05 Cummins. Absolutely love that engine! I just wrote up a little report on my recent road trip. Let us know how yours performs as you start using it.

I got a few more questions for the general audiuence here

First of all, thanks to whoever it was that mentioned the ball joints. I checked them out. With front raised, I can use a prybar and there is about 1/4" vertical movement in BOTH ball joints on BOTH sides. I didnt notice much sideways play IE: pulling out on the top of tire and pushing in on bottom and Vice versa.

Definatally worth having them look at thursday when they are replacing the rear u-joint for me:thumbsup:

And I really hate to sound like a knit-picker here, afterall, it is a used truck, but the 3month/3000mile warrenty makes me want to sure up EVERYTHING, so...I parked the truck in the garage overnight, and there is about 3-4 drops of oil on the floor:confused2: And looking at the underside, the front of the oilpan, sway bar, cross member, and some other parts all have a pretty generous coating of greasy packed oil. You know how it gets on the underside of a motor.

Since this is my first diesel...is this anything to be alarmed about? or is it just the nature of the beast?

I really doubt they will be tearing out the motor to seal up the bottom end on this warrenty, BUT...it is listed as being covered on the warrenty sheet...

Again, this is not sounding good. It should drip no oil. I have one, a different brand, with 131,000 miles and not a drop.

The GM's are notorious for having a poorly positioned cross member that is a pain when its time for a oil change. There is no way other than a valve like I have in the ones I maintain and a drain hose to prevent coating the frame with oil.:confused2:

I would definitely get that drip checked out...
My F350 has 96K miles and my Buick has 146K miles...
Neither one leaks a drop...

I remember my dad always owned Oldsmobile's in the 60's...
Everyone of those buggers leaked enough oil between changes to stain the concrete car port...
Never enough to warrant a repair, just enough to know that those old battle wagons were alive...

Of my current vehichles:

2001 saturn...135000 miles
2008 Nissan Sentra...75000miles
And the truck I traded in, A 2003 silverado w/105000 miles,

NONE of them leaked a drop at all. They were ALL garage kept so I would know.
