Jim I went to work for another type company it was in '74 Couple of years after Pres. J. Carter had a midsummer nights dream and declaired the shortage of gas so shut down the pipelines across the country.
Phelps Dodge Copper Co. had to start burning crude oil in the smelters Auto speed limit reduced to 55MPH. from unlimited if the truck would acheive it.
Liked Douglas area Bisbee Lowell also good. Out of Bisbe is a tunnel after going through look to top of Mt. At the Radio towers for communication used to take care of a Micro wave site. "I played cop in Tombstone, 1962 / 1964, no cell towers, no tunnel, still drove over the mountain. Think the tunnel was being dug at that time. Police radio filled most of the trunk of the car. If conditions were right and I was in the right place I could talk to bisbee."
We have plans on going past the area either this fall or next spring. Depending on the weather . Dry is normal but nothing for rain another.

As you go east from Tucson, about 3 miles east of Bouie look south and you can see what looks like a rocket pointing up. That is a water tower we built in the 70's. 3,000 Gallon tank, 14' to the bottom of the tank. Used a small "Rounder" to start the holes, dug the rest by hand, 5' deep. Set the poles and used the Rounder as a scaffold. Poles were about as heavy as the Rounder, had it up on 1 wheel on 1 of them.

I was in the mid 60's driving toward Bowie on the old Apachie Pass road d saw a large rattle snake on side of road. So stopped to look at it and a Chev, Station wagon from New Jersey full of kids and parents stopped and asked if they were on correct road to the old Fort apache . told then about 5 miles on down the road then asked if they had ever seen a rattle snake they said no, Told them to back up about 10 feet and I would show then one. They all got out and showed them how could only strike about 1/2 of there length.

Had a 1 ton 56 Ford (still have it in town.) loaded up 4 30+ power poles that were cut to about 15' and went through Apache Pass. Front of old truck was pointed skyward. Stopped on the down side, big puff of wind almost blew my Grand dad off the cliff. I grabbed his shirt just in time.

That was a "Short Cut" to our place. :D

I think the Cochise stronghold and the CCC camp grounds are one of Arizona best secrets.
Seems no one hardly visits. Although now a rv campground north of the area.
The Mule pass tunnel was in place in the early 60's still was a pull to get over the mt.
have rancher friends at Cliff and Gila N.Mex. that we still visit .

About the time of the year when your rainy season starts. so enjoy.
Ark. has had a short drought month of june no rain. have ponds and pumps to keep the needed area green.

My brother in law was born in Cliff. My sister worked for PD, cattle operation on the river. Part of her job was naming the bulls. Cattle operation was just for the water rights. Water was sent to the pit. Had a friend that run a shovel there - brother in law ran a loader.

Dad had a ranch on Blue River, it ran from the river up past Hannigan Meadow on top of the mountain.

I knew if we haven't met we ate the dust of each others vehicle on same road.
Try Otho Woodrow and Son Jerry. Otho died last fall. Jerry also works the dam for irrigation and clears the ditch of brush repairs leaks when shows up.
Jerry's wife Judy has tought school for couple of generations of kids. her family runs the grocery store in Cliff.
Woodrow ranch brand the bar OZ has been there before N.Mex was a territory.
Everybody in lower N. Mex. worked for PD or some related business.
Would of moved to Safford Ariz. when retired only life hasn't slowed down enough
Now wife thinks to old to relocate. and G-kids about to finish college.

More stories than I could ever tell about that part of the world and S AZ.

I even spent some time AR at DeFalls Bluff on White River. Friends there ran a 2 Car Dinner. Cat fish the main item.

Think my brother in law's sister works at the market or did not long ago. The wife of "Click". He died about 2 years ago.

The tunnel through Mule Pass was still under construction when I was there. Some hard rock miner's that I knew were working on it.

Picture is Grand dad "Sid Wilson". I helped / hindered him build that coach
