11 ga fabric. Is there much difference in the wire that manufacturers use? I mean some of the stuff seems real soft and some seems a lot stiffer. Any one have any thoughts or experience with chain link fabric grades. I've looked at the local BigBox stores and some local fence material vendors and the prices varies by 30-40% . bjr

I think that most 11ga. 2" fabric is about the same. It's a decent low quality fencing to keep people from walking through your yard.

But if you want a sturdy fence, especially one that dogs can't chew through as easily or bend out of shape if you bump it with your lawnmower, then get the 9ga. This is about the only size they sold years ago before big box stores and cheap materials.

Box stores suck when it comes to chain link materials.

They sell 12 1/2 and 11 1/2 gauge material which is just a little better than chicken wire.

If you want regular chain link then you need to find a wholesaler that specializes in chain link fence materials.

9 gauge is usually consider industrial grade

11 gauge is usually considered commercial grade

11 1/2 gauge is considered residential grade

12 1/2 gauge is considered junk.

The wire fabric is only part of it. Box stores sell the least quality fittings and materials too.

16 gauge pipe is considered residential

SS 20 or schedule 20 is considered commercial

SS 40 or schedule 40 is considered industrial

Besides the durability of the heavier material there is the matter of appearance. The heavier gauge wire and framework can be stretched tighter and dressed out to look a lot better. If you look down a chainlink fence and the joints are all in line straight and true then a professional dressed it out. You don't see that much these days, sad.

One thing you never do is use chainlink for livestock. It is the word's best back scratcher. It is also woven. So when it is used to contain goats, horses, cows, etc it will be rubbed on and then it will stretch and bow out.

Good advice, thank you. I'm gonna go to the local "Fencing only" dealer here in town as they as least know the grade size of fabric they sell. I tried to find some 21' lengths of fence tube material and the only manufacturer I found was Master Hallco and their price was about 30 percent about one of their distributor dealer price that sold them in pre-cut lengths. Does anyone know of other galvanized fence tube Manufacturers beside Master Hallco? The local steel vendors don't sell the galvanized tube and didn't know where to get it. I just kinda stumbled on Master Hallco's name. bjr

Go to Worldfencenews.com and check out their links. Keep in mind that for wholesalers location isn't important, the clients come to them or they deliver. So the dealer you want to meet might be back in some industrial complex.
