A freind who had successfully farmed it most all of his life retired from it and enjoyed tractors and tractor pulling lost his life at 69 last nite.

It's not like this is the first tractor that he has worked on and it's not like he didn't know better from all of his years on the farm and his ability beyond the normal repairs put him above the average for sure of being able to fix equipment or to rebuild an engine or transmission.

He was working with one of his tractors and jump stating it from the starter when it did start. Unfortuantely it was in gear and as soon as the hydraulics got pressure off it went driving over his upper body.

Did he know better, sure he did and the old story still doesn't work!

It can happen to you!

Sorry to hear this, was this in the confines of a building?

Sorry about your loss. Most of us have few "good friends". Sudden death is very cruel especially to the family and friends. Mike

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, and thanks for sharing this story as it will help bring better awareness that such a situation can happen to any of us,

It was in his shop.

That's what I figured, seems alot of those type accident happen in close quarters where it's difficult to get out of the way.
But it's usually getting trapped between things, not getting run over inside.

I have done the exact same thing in years past, but it wasn't in gear; it pretty much can happen to anyone and as mentioned this will serve to refresh our memory and may save one of our lives.

So sorry for the loss of a good man Art. Larry

There was an article in the paper about an elderly man who did the same thing here in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago. He was also crushed to death.

It happens a lot.

Art, I'm truly sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your friend. Accidents like that have taken a couple of my friends over the years, and there aren't any words to remove the shock and loss one feels at such a time. It's an awful reminder that it only takes a moment's distraction, a bit of fatigue, or impatience to invite tragedy. Sobering. Please be safe, everyone.

Real sad story to read for sure. Really lost for words,I know someone here TBN will remember what happened to your friend and it will/could save someone(s) from losing their life or getting injured.

For some we become so comfortable cheating a little bit on safety that we actually become unsafe!

That sort of thing usually happens to the most unlikely candidates..... Lost a good friend of my fathers a few years back. This guy was an equipment jockey/farmer that had been under literally THOUSANDS of tractor, and was one of the most careful people I ever worked around. He was working on a 9600 Ford, seems like he was changing rear axle bearings....HAd it up on jacks, getting ready to put timbers under it. One of the jacks released and dropped the rear end on his head. He never knew what hit him.

I guess there's some sort of "poetic justice" in having it all end that way.

At any rate, my condolances to all the friends and family of your buddy.

I still tear up on my Birthday.

I absolutely adored my Great Uncle. I did not get to see him much, since I was here in Calif and he was in South Dakota. But when he visited, we were inseparable. All the stories of the family farm outside Yankton, things he invented, stuff like that.

He was working under a car, when a jackstand somehow failed. He died in the hospital a couple days later. On my birthday. That was 36 years ago. I'm tearing up now. He was an awesome man, who had an awesome life. I still miss him.

Art, my condolences...
