So how much trouble am I in ?

Well this is going to cost me. Hit a big rock with the snow blower and the shear pin went. Re placed it and finished the job. Next time I noticed I was leaking hydraulic fluid from the PTO shaft. Thought it was the seal and so did the dealer. Went to replace it today an I found out I bused the housing holding the shaft. I think that it's that whole rear end casing ?

Any one care to guess what I have to replace and what this is going to cost in parts and possibly labour? I normally fix my own stuff but this looks like a huge job. Would anyone know how well the shop manual would cover replacing the rear end casing?

This is a BX24.

Ouch, that hurts to look at! Do you have KTAC insurance? If so, all you will have to pay is the $250.00 deductable.

KTAC (Kubota Tractor Acceptance Corporation http://www.ktacinsuranceagency.com) is a Kubota endorsed insurance company. Not sure if it's offered in Canada or not, maybe someone else can chime in on whether it is or not. Just wanted to make sure you remembered to use KTAC if you had it.

Took quick look at WSM. Total 23 pages removal/disassy...level of detail a bit light, but then I'm used to GM shop manuals. If you're a gearhead with a place to work, probably doable...

Do you have a loan on the tractor? If so you may have KTAC.

Thanks, I do have it in the garage and bit of a gear-head. I guess ill need the get a hold of WSM to see what I'm getting into. It will be interesting to see what the dealer quotes to fix it. The case is an $875 part.

My father has a BX23 and 1/2 of the midshaft was left on from the MMM. He turned the PTO on not knowing it was there. Well after a few seconds of slamming the bottom of the tractor the repair bill was about $1500.00 at the local dealer. I dont think he will do that again.

It might be faster for them-your dealer
to do it if you are in snow country.

How many hours do you have on your BX? I taken it is not under warranty. Has any of the dealers given a reason why the housing would break when it is normal to shear pins?

Naw, don't ever use anything less than aircraft grade.

Less then 200h It's 4 years old. Dealer is closed today. Tuesday will be the day I realize just how much this is going to cost me. Without having the WSM to look at I'm thinking that the best plan is to remove the whole transmission assembly and have the dealer swap the case and put it back on myself. It's also going to ensure that the bearings are inspected properly etc.

Probably best plan. My reply did not address possible internal damage. Also get price diff between sending whole tractor vs transaxle...may not be worth your time to "explode" back half...

if out of warranty.. the rear of a salvage unit with front ed damage may be an idea.. places like wengers could put that on a pallate and freight it out.. etc.
