I always wondered what would happen if a Company Rep got on this board and read some of these post. Would he think:

"Wow! These guys have had some real issues, I wish I could help them all out"

OR

"All these guys are idiots and they don't know a thing about tractors!"

Don't get me wrong, I am not picking on anyone (Company Reps or Posters on TBN). I was just curious on what would happen. Even if the Rep gave us good answers, would we listen, or just "blow him off" and say it was a bad product failure.

Feel free to share your thoughts on what would happen in the above senerio.

I would like to think they do. They probably are incognito ;).

I am pretty sure they at least browse through on occasion. I doubt they would be posting though. I have run into it on automotive forums. It helped me get $1900 back from Dodge after a bad warranty call by a local dealer on a rerepair after the warranty ran out, rep saw my complaint and helped me get a check for labor. Also, some buddies had their vehicle warranties cancelled by posting their mods and drifting shenanigans online (not as likely with a tractor).

I wonder what the best way to know good advise from bad advise on this forum. I have been around tractors all my life, and I must say, there are several people on here that give really good advise. However, there are a couple who think they know much more than they really do. The shame of it is, I have noticed that those guys seem to have a good following (don't ask me who, I do not know anyone from Adam on here, it is just an observation from reading these forums over that last few years).

I'm not a company rep. but I did spend 12 years in working in a couple of equipment dealers that sold a lot of CUT's. My feelings fall somewhere between, "I wish I could help", and "man, what a bunch of idiots". I also agree that there are some here giving advice in areas that they maybe shouldn't be. I try to stick to things that I am very sure of, and stay away from the hard to diagnose without being there problems.

As far as whether readers would take the advice from a rep. it would likely depend on how the rep. was able to communicate in the situation. I'm sure some would come off as arrogant, and others that would just seem like "yes" men. I think few would actually be respected. They would have to be regular contributors, they couldn't come and go. They would have to build a track record of producing results. The readers would also have to understand that a rep. is just a rep. and can't work miracles.

Well said Brain. I have not shared this much on ths board for fear of being either ignored or swamped with questions, but I have been in the equipment industry for 10 years now in the service side (not as a company rep) and have multiple college degrees in the field. I have seen a lot of failures and have given a few post on here before. Most of my post have gotten the response some what like "You are wrong, you obviously don't know much about tractors." (a little nicer than that, but the meaning is the same. To be honest, it kinda ticks me off sometimes. As a service manager I see more failures in a week that most people do in a life time. It just makes me wonder how many peoples problems could have been fixed if they had just listend to the correct person (not always me, I make mistakes too, I am human). Sorry, I digress. I just always wonder how a "company man" would be taken on here.

Texas Fella, I hope you continue posting on the forum and are not discouraged by some of the comments. Remember that for every person who posts in a given thread, many more are simply reading and consider what you have to say. I don't know much about tractors but am here to learn and could certainly benefit from your advice.

As far as the question at hand, I am with the earlier poster who felt that the response would go hand in hand with the attitude and knowledge of the company rep. in question.

I pretty well agree with this. I also look at the poster profile and when they tell nothing to almost mothing about themselves I take it that they are hiding some thing, don't care enough about the forum to even give info about themselves or don't have a tractor or land or no experience. Just my opinion.

Well, Texas Fella, I for one would welcome a comment from a "Service Manager", who said something like, "We get quite a few of those in for repairs, and it is either ABC, or XYZ." Or, "Try this:"

I asked a question on removing a front wheel from an old JD 850 yesterday, and got some good advice in minutes. Many newbies here have NO experience with diesel engines, and need all the hand holding they can get- hopefully without the laughter. . .

Point taken, JT!

I've got a Ford 4500 TLB and the aforementioned JD 850, but I haven't built my page yet, no avatar, etc. It's on the "To Do" list.

Agreed. Good point JT. I will update my profile with appropriate info. Never even thought of that as I originally joint "just to look." Thanks.
