I don't recall that being an issue on my 500...A ratchet strap should work fine.

I use socket type that fit the filter in question. They fit on a 3/8 ratchet and work well. I have a bunch or different sizes, take your filter with you and get the one you need.

I used a filter socket on mine too...Either should work fine. I really don't remember any pain in changing it. My BX gives me more grief. Bought a Snap-On "finger" type to get that one out.
