No, what happens is they go to join the other felons to be when they graduate from a few months to a year in the prison system's vocational trades program. There they learn how to make a "real" living in the world with skills and abilities that eliminate the need for further incarcerations...........God bless our country............Dennis

Actually I agree with that. I have a bad egg brother who is a case study in what you say here.

No room in the corrections system.

I live in Virginia, we have several facilities that have been closed due to excessive capacity. One has never housed an inmate and is a max security facility that was completed in 2009, iirc. It costs the state over $150000 per year in electricity, maintenance and maintenance staff.

Dennis, you might be right about the scrap metal aspect. You just KNOW a scrap yard has to suspect a kid with a load of good t-posts and other good fencing. It's like the copper thieves. Scrap yards have to know, but turn a blind eye. I was shocked to see on the TV news last week about a street with no operating street lights because thieves had stolen the copper wire.

You just reminded me around here in city of Naples,Fla sewer grates are chained down.Don"t know if its because of theives or if theres a hole on side or under sidewalks some person(small) or pet could fall in.Probably both reasons.

THeres a big commercial scrap yard in the nexttown that has lot of business its well organized but the grind everything as it comes in. some farm equipmentis left out. I went there this morning to ask to walk around and look for a 250 gallon stainless milk tank and a JD planter that was stolen friday. Nope they refused I saw a planter and a tank that resembled them and they still did . I had to call the law. THey let me ID it. THey should have been able to tell the planter wasnt scrap its like new 4 row unit.


Im glad you caught the thif lots of folks are walking the fence lines gettin old drums and things. I was at work running the new dozer and dressing up for the end of the day and everyone helse had gone. I was on the other side of the hill when I came up over the hill I saw a pick up and a trailer and 2 grown ups and 3 little kids on the working face. THey were picking out card boadr and steel scraps. I walked the dozer down there and told them to get off the face. They just kept on till I started over there with the machine. THey acted like I was a jerk about it but aI told them those 14 signs that said keep out meant them to. I made them un load all the cardboard and metal that I knew that had come from us. THey even tried to cal lthe parent company to tell on me. THe number listed is mine lol.
I found out through another person that works for us that they were fired from their last job for stealing iron and drums of oil.

several years ago, when scrap metal was at its highest: i had a 2 bottom plow, 2 ea 5ft disk, 4ft brush hog an a bunch of other miscellanious metal stuff stolen: like you said, the scrap yard had to know it was not scrap: one of the disk was almost like new...but they don't seem to care.

We have several scrap yards here... they require drivers license, log the license number of the vehicle and mail the person a check 10 days later.

It has helped because most low-life are not going to go through the steps...
