I am having an old salvage yard full of cars crushed and have been talking a good bit with the owner of the scrap yard. He told me about some folks who showed up recently with coils of brand new copper wire that still had Ameron UE stickers on them. They got a free ride downtown.

Isn't it amazing how crooks and people that do not want to do the right thing get paid by the gov't. ? Makes me sick!

A few have asked about what cameras to buy. I have two different brands I like. Scoutguard and Covert. Both use the 'AA' batteries so they are small (not much bigger than a can of beer) and can be hidden easier. Battery life is great. Both have infrared so they take pictues or videos in the dark.

If they look like beer, Those boy's would have left my steel and took the cameras:laughing:

I have noticed the copper grounding wire on the most of the power poles around here are missing the section from the ground to about 7 feet up. That's how bad it is.

when I was on Parris Island we had recruits harvest them in the fall...

We had to stop that in the mid 90's since it was considered hazing..

There is a very good solution against thieves.

Make them work for and pay back twice the value for every thing they stole and then without exeption keep them working to pay back all cost of prosecution and incarseration before release.
Not wanna work!,then no food either.

If that don't changes their attitude than nothing will.
Second time around,penalty should be.. death!

putting them in jail helps no one.

The problem with that is you will have unions picketing the work sites where prisoners are working claiming prisoners are taking away good paying jobs from people that want to work.

That happened here many many years ago. They used to use jail labor to repair/rejuvenate the brick streets until the unions protested.

Just across the border from us in Michigan, they use prisoners to clean and maintain the county parks. It is kind of interesting. You will see all of them dressed in orange jumpsuits with JAIL(or something like that) on the back in big letters. A couple of them will be out on the trails with safety gear, chainsaws, machetes, etc... and no supervision. Then you will see a couple with rakes and tennis shoes, but no shoelaces, in a group monitored by a Sheriff. You will even see one or two with ankles shackled, wrists shackled to a chain around their stomach, slippers and still using little gripper tongs picking up cigarette butts and trash and putting it in 5 gallon buckets. I think it all depends on the security risk and trust of the prisoner as to what they get to do and how much supervision they need. The guys with the chainsaws and machetes just want to do their time and get out with no hassles as fast as possible.

About a year ago my son in law who lives next door noticed a POS car leaving my driveway at a high rate of speed. He walked over to my shed located behind my house and noticed it open and a chainsaw he had just returned was missing. The crroks were long gone but he headed down to the closest pawn shop and the POS car was there. He parked behind them and went into the shop to look around. The crooks were still at the counter with the chainsaw and an arm load of other tools. He walked back out and called the cops and me to meet him there. The crooks come out raising 9 kinds of hail. One of them takes off on foot and the other says he was just along for the ride decides to take his chances. The cops take him in, pull the video from the pawn shop, ID the other punk. He is picked up a couple of days later. As my stuff was pawned I had to go before a judge about 2 weeks later and present a statement of ownership. Got all my stuff back.

The one who pawned the stuff made a plea deal for one year in state jail. It was his second time around. The other guy they could not place my stuff in his posession but the did serve a search warrent on his place and recovered 4 stolen 4 wheelers. He was also looking to make a plea lat I heard.

Scrap metal thieves are bad around here also. If you leave home for more than a few days you might find your A/c unit stripped. One guy even had his entire electric service pole gone. The county did catch ond dumb crook who decided to strip the copper at a county barn. Had it all on video including close up shots of him and his unique tattoos.
