After reading this thread I have to go check my receiver for cracks!

I've never used a WD hitch. Why on earth would I? I only tow up to 11,000 pounds and 1,500 pounds of tongue weight on a 156" wheel base truck with 4,200 pounds on the front axle when empty. You just can't make a truck like that light in the front. As for the rear, I have 7200 pound combined spring rating and my empty truck sits at 2,800 pounds in the rear. So what's a little tongue weight to this truck!? Nothing! But I do have a little 2" receiver and I'm unsure of it's ratings. As I said, I'll check for cracks. Been going this way for 12 years with this truck!

As for the "rake" of the Ford vs. the Chevy, based on the pictures in this thread I don't think there is a real difference - I think it's an illusion. The hood on the Chevy seems lower than the hood on the Ford, that makes the truck appear to have a forward "rake" (see post #8). But if look at the whole body of the truck they look about equal to me, both higher in the rear by about the same amount.

I never paid much attention to bed height before this thread. But just the other day, I was in my Chevy next to a Ford F150, which appeared to be all stock, not lifted or anything. The bed was noticeably higher than my truck, which is a 2500HD. Not being tall, I'm especially glad I'm not a Ford guy!

Part of that is the bed is deeper. Look at a late model Ford vs a Late model GM. My 2007 5.5' bed F-150 I had would hold more mulch than a 6.5' bed GM.

Only in volume....The loss of a foot has other issues. Personally, I couldn't survive with anything less than 6.5ft...Doesn't really matter if I can get a little more sand in a closed bed. Just sayin...

I have to agree with you here. I just don't think I could live with a 5.5" bed. With 2 dog boxes, decoys and waders for 3-4 guys I can almost fill up my 6 3/4" bed. There are ways around hauling lumber that is longer than your bed.

You could always get the optional "Man Step".

2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 - 60.7 cubic feet, 6.5ft bed = 78.7" long x 50.6" wide (between wheels) x bed height of N/A.
2011 Dodge RAM 1500 - 58.9 cubic feet, 6'4" bed = 76.3" long x 51" wide (between wheels) x bed height of 20.1".

So the Ford has a deeper bed by over 2" but is still less in overall capacity. You really need to work on the old GM/Dodge stories, the numbers never seem to work out...

Maybe with the shorter and deeper bed, that left less surface area and kept it tucked up closer to the cab and less blew out on the way home:laughing:
