How's everybody doing? Now that the snow in south jersey is melting away I decided to tell my wife I had to fix the drainage at the end of the driveway. I'll tell her anything to got out and work (play) anybody else feel the same? Yesterday I decide to take a tree down just cause we need space.

When I am done with my driveway, I go do the neighbor's. Just because.:)

I told the wife I was going to break up the ice on the drive and get some seat time. While I slipped into my Sudifed comma she 'did me a favor' and did it all with a shovel ....

Not a favor I wanted ...

Yup...as my wife understands, "Plowing a gravel driveway is damaging, therefore, once the snow melts, I need to be out there restoring the driveway." Allows for plenty of seat time during and after snowfall.

I never use the term "excuse"
- it implies guilt.

I prefer to "demonstrate a sound business plan".
Sounds more like saving money than spending it ...

When my L4200 was still young (to me), I wanted to investigate water-table depth near where I planned to re-locate my leach field. I started digging to find water-table evidence, but once reaching minimum required depth w/o finding any, decided to dig until I found some. Then, I started wondering exactly how deep my 'hoe would go. I ended up digging to the very end of my Woods 9000BH's reach (including dropping the stabilizers down for that extra few inches). Something like 8'6", if memory serves, and probably about 5' wide at the top. When my wife saw the hole and asked why I dug it, I really didn't have a good answer. For some reason, women think that digging a hole just so you can fill it back in doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Pfft. Silly women.

Born and raised in Willingboro NJ, incidentally.

Mine always tells me I find any excuse available to get in one of those tractors ... I don't know about that.

I came up with a good excuse - er - business plan. I have a 3/4 acre lot several miles from here. It is up for sale, so haven't been out there in awhile. I went out just to check on the place this morning and saw a million things I could do with my tractor. I came home and told her and her reply was... Are you ready for this? Her reply was, "You just want to play with your tractor." I am so busted. Not that that is going to stop me.

I have several brush piles that need burning. I am going to burn one of them and while it is burning, move the stuff from the other pile over and burn it on the same pile.

There are several downed trees that need to be pushed up to the burn pile.

Then, I am going to pull back one of my culvert ends and add another section of culvert pipe for a wider entrance.

I need to build a road down to the back end of the place.

"Why do all of that," you say, "if you're just going to sell the place?" He he he, maybe I won't sell it. I just might look for a small disc and bedding plow and put a big ole garden in out there. The back end of the place sits on a small lake, so I could pump all the water I need for irrigation.

See what all you can come up with when you try?

I don't have to give my wife any excuses.I just tell her as the man of the house I do what I want.Usually gets me no dinner for about 3 days straight and the "don't you dare touch me" when the lights go off. :(

No wife, no excuses-or good business plans-required.
The GF is pretty impressed with the walking trails I have opened up through the forest on the property too. She even tried out my snowshoes on some of the trails while I was clearing snow with the tractor last time she visited. Better than sitting in the house feeling ignored while I did the 'hard work' out in the yard:D.

Sometimes just being under foot seems to get her to say those words I yearn to hear," Can't you find something to do? " Yes dear I can:D.
If the price of fuel keeps going up I'm going to hear more of "can we really afford you playing around all day on that thing?" So, I try and keep it full all the time, and have a 5gal. can full for back up.:D:thumbsup:

Luckily for me My GF doesn't like the cold at the cabin so I get the winter up there to myself..most of the time. With the snow up there this year I get more time on the tractor than I can handle. In the summer she likes to read and relax at the cabin while I tear my road up and fix it. It seems to work well for us.

So, are all tractor drivers PW'd? Actually, She knows I'm going to do pretty much what I please since there are so many fast food joints around and I'm too old to care about anything but sleep when the lights go out. Even when I started talking about buying a new L3400, she tried one weak little argument and I didn't hear another word about it. The L3400 is sitting out back as we speak.

No excuses needed, my wife actually told me to go with a cab and she spends almost as much time on "her" 2660 as I do on our L5030 and M8540.

I'm busted before I even begin. I just say I'm going out to play with the tractors. She knows. I even manage to accomplish something most of the time!
