Buying Advice ym2000BD is the price right?

Anything with a loader needs the rear tires loaded (water or antifreeze) before you ever pick anything up. And more ballast on the 3-point before doing practical work. These tractors are awfully narrow for a loader. When I first started reading here I found a post something like "We had a YM240 with loader here at the plant for many years. It never went off a paved surface. I would look out my window and see it lying on its side with the loader lifted to max a couple of times per year. That never seemed to hurt it." As soon as I read that I went and loaded my rear tires.

YM1700D. I think this is a sleeper, capable of more work than the smaller-chassis Yanmars. Some people think the absence of a water pump is a limitation but I don't share that belief - Yanmar designed it to put out full rated power all day with the cooling system it has. I think they got it right

i have put mine on it's side(YM1500) and the bucket was only 1/3 of the way up. i should think doing it a few times somethings gotta give or a serious injury will prevail. as for the cooling i have worked mine hard in 40 deg C weather and it never complained or ran hot so i agree, they got that right.

I would look elsewhere. There are too many Yanmars in Ga. and Ala. to mess around with a viet recon dealer, (unless you find a really good deal, and that ain't it).

x2 on what normde2001 stated. you could make the drive to fredricks and get the same tractor with a koyker loader for the same price....and it won't be a vn recon.

x3 On That!!!!! All of my Yanmar Equipment was either bought from a Fredricks supplied Dealer or Fredrick's.;) I had some issues with My Tiller which was eventually corrected.About it Thats amazing for my Old Grumpy

Ok Fredricks is also much higher in price. According to their pricesheet. The 2000bd at fredricks is $5861 plus $3195 for the loader =$9056 versus my current deal of $7700. Also comparing fredricks price on the 1700d is $5517 plus $3195 for the loader =$8712 versus the current deal at this nearby dealer of $6800. I just can't see a domestic recon and koyker loader being worth $1300 or $1900 more. Are the VN's really that scary? Maybe there is a price run-up that is making this difference? If so screw the stock market and buy tractors....lol.

Buying old used equipment I've always budgeted a few hundred $ to fix stuff myself after purchase, that the seller 'forgot' to tell me about and won't warranty. My actual expenditure of this reserve has been highly variable, but it has averaged out over many years' purchases including a couple of total losses. (Cute but unrepairable early 60's Volvo was the worst. But a second near identical one was great, I drove it several years. The costs averaged out).

For a 30 year old Yanmar maybe include the cost of transport to a repair facility, a plugged radiator etc in this estimate. For a VN rig I would set this reserve considerably higher.

The one thing that dont make anysense out of this is that, Spalding tractors (steve) puts adds up on craigs list for his tractors. I saw an add 6months or so ago of his a ym2000 for something like $3900-$4100. That was with his year parts and service warrenty. He gets his tractors from Fredricks? Fredricks must be marking up the $h!t out of them if thats what they say they want for them, im sure you can talk them down?

I have thought of incidental additional costs of repairs and have funds for that. I suppose part of the extra cost at fredricks could be the 1year warranty versus the 6mo. But any repair out of warranty short of a total engine overhaul I would probably do myself, thus labor costs of repair would be minimal. One question, since I am considering buying a bottom plow in this deal. I have used/borrowed a 2 row bottom/turning plow in the past on the 8n but with a ym2000bd should I go with a 1 or 2 row?

Clemsonfor, negotiation could result in a lower price from fredricks....the prices I quoted are straight from their website pricesheet so maybe another $500 less at best? IDK

Also, was the Craigslist ad you saw include the 4wd "d" model?

Call Fredricks and tell them what you want and what you have to spend, maybe they will make you a good deal.

The old saying.. You get what you pay for. A Fredricks Tractor or a V N Tractor:confused: your choice. I know what mine would be:D

/ ym2000BD is the price right? #53
I think the point is that there is no real advantage to buying a refurbished tractor from anyone unless you are just into shiney new paint jobs. My observation over the past ten years is that they are no more trouble-free than others straight out of the shipping containers.

/ ym2000BD is the price right? #54
May have trouble with V N Tractor may not. My question would be . Is the seller going to stand behind you when you do have a problem ? I know for a fact Tom Will

If you'd like to know who it is, I'd be happy to tell you. Carey. I just didn't want to give press to him until I was satisfied with the deal.

Carey I sent you a PM with the name. I just don't wish to start touting a dealer name publicly when clearly this may not be the place I end up dealing with. No name = no advertising

Reconditioned yanmars regardless of VN or USA are overpriced to call them good deals anymore.

The price difference is probably because of the warranty, however you could buy the VN machine and fix ALOT of issues with the $1900+ you save!

If you want a "deal" on a yanmar find yourself a used one on craigslist, they are on there all the time, if you have a 9,000 budget buy a lightly used 10yr old kubota or deere.
