I was just curious what some of the diff. are in these machines as on paper they look real close. Just curious if the mx4700 is worth the extra doe as my dealer is kinda pushing the l4400. Could be that he has bout 20 on his lot and only one 4700. he says people buy more 4400 than 4700 say there more user friendly but i can't tell no diff. Oh yeah this will be a gear tractor.

Bigbull338 recently bought a MX5100, maybe he can provide more info on the difference. I briefly looked at both and preferred the MX as it just seemed more substantial.

I quickly fell in love with the Grand L, so didn't research the others too much.

i think the mx4700 has a bigger front end, the hubs and axle and what not.
i would also look at the mx5100. as it will have the telescoping lower links. I've had mine for about 2 years and love it. I think it might also be a little heaver than the l4400.
Good luck
Brian

The MX4700 is slightly bigger all around, tires, engine, HP, weight, higher capacity loader. I think the 3ph is the same but don't quote me on that.

I'm not sure what would be more user friendly about the L4400, but if the dealer has both models drive them around the lot and then ask him to show you what the more user friendly features are.
Then you can decide which one fits you and your needs best.

I have looked long and hard at the 5100 and imo its just not worth it. I don't want a turbo or egr on the motor. For it to be turboed it onle has a slight increase in hp. The turbo is tiny tiny and i was told is there for emission purposes and not hp. I do the like links being adjustable but for the price diff. I can live with out it. I am 100% set on either the 4400 or 4700. Just trying to figure out if the 4700 is worth the extra doe. I'm leaning to the way that it is. Just was curious if there anything that stand out about em either way. Also can anyone tell me how the pto operates on these models. I noticed the lever with a cable. So when engaged does the pto work with the clutch like a older tractor you push the clutch in and the pto stops?

Has anyone compared the price of the MX4700HST to the MX5100HST lately?
I'm finding for a 4WD MX5100HST, FEL, and ag tires they want 25K - 26K for the zero percent offer and about 1K less for cash.

You can probably buy the parts to make it adjustable.

i got my MX5100 HST 4x4 with fel for $24,000 cash delivered.so your price is right on the mark.

I asked that question when I was Kubota shopping. Buying the parts would eat up a considerable portion of the savings between the two models.

I agree with you on the turbo, the only reason to get one would be if you were operating at really high elevations.

So much for that idea.

I guess I am old enough and lazy enough to where I like all the extras regardless of the cost which is why I went with the Grand L and M40.

I have a L4400HST and it is a great running tractor. That said if I were to buy today I would get the MX4700HST for 3 reasons:

First- is the heavier duty front axle.

Second- is the FEL is stronger(higher lift capacity)

Third-The rollback angle is much better on the loader of the MX4700 or MX5100.

Keep in mind the L4400 is a great machine.

The nicest feature you'll see on the MX4700DT vs the L4400DT is the mechanical shuttle transmission on the MX. The shuttle will be on your left hip. I've operated this unit and it will shift considerably easier and quicker going from forward to reverse than the L4400DT. Always opt for the better of two transmissions. It's something you'll notice every time you change directions.

I have never seen a Mx4700 but if its anything like the MX5000 I have then its unbeatable for the price, definitely a rung above the L4400.

Another plus for the MX4700 is that up here, the M series gets 0% financing for 48mths. The L series they only give that for 36mths. I am now considering the MX4700 above the L4400 as well.

I purchased the mx5100hst over the l4400 because of the reasons mentioned above. it is a heavier, ruggeder tractor with more ponies. it was 3,000 more than the l4400 but I didnt want to regret not spending the money up front if I really should have gotten into a m chassis. the front tires are much larger and all the front end castings are beefier. I use it for skidding firewood and have the kubota 74" rear snowblower with the Q.A. front end loader. other than having to watch where the bucket is snow blowing has been great and back dragging with the bucket around and up to doors and firewood piles has been very efficient. I am glad I went with the mx5100

I didn't want a turbo either ... plus, I believe the turbo'd MX5100 requires you to let the tractor idle for 5 minutes after using it so it can cool down: That would drive me nuts :confused2: Time consuming & a waste of diesel.

Imagine it with the HST!

I really didn't want a turbo either, but they are unavoidable in the larger tractors. We haven't found the turbo on our M8540 problematic as I usually just kind of poke along to the shed when I am finished using it and let it cool down on the drive in.

I will be buying another Grand L someday and I will have no concerns about getting one with a turbo. As always YMMV.
