our horse hay here is about 54$ per round.. with cow hay being 20$ per round. you can get mixed bahia and coastal rounds that are suitable for horses in the 25-45$ range depending onthe cutting number and the amount of mix ( how dark it is ). have to drive about an hour to get the 54$ horse hay.. the other hays depends on where they have been cut.

Right now prices are higher. Junk hay sells for $20 and really good hay is going for about $70 plus. Our hay prices shot up since we had a drought through the summer. Most folks started feeding in August/September. I hope I have enough to get through... it will be close.

Isn't that what horses are for?

Ken

Chopping back out on the ground?

By the time you cut, rake, bale and truck hay at $15/round they are just raping their ground. IMO of course. We buy big squares of oat straw for $20-25. They are worth almost that much as fertilizer. That is a waste crop that has to be removed.

You guys paying $15-25 ought to see what hay brings in N Texas.
$35-40 is about the cheapest you'll find for a 4x5 cow hay and if you want horse quality rounds it's $60 plus not to mention 90% of hay advertised as horse quality isn't.

What would a load like this bring in Texas? I am sure the cows would love it!:licking: Pretty rich alfalfa for the horses.

Two string alfalfa (40-50 pound) bales are ~ $10-11 at the feed store. You'd probably have enough there to buy a round of drinks for the forum:)
