Tractor hinge for farm gate

The pins would be standard three point tractor pins you can buy at any tractor supply or hardware store.

Weld plates to the pins and then weld the plates to the posts.

Do you have a link or photo of what your trying to explain?

Thanks for the help so far.

I think your talking about those long j pins that are threaded on the long part. Comes with two nuts to lock it on the pipe or post. The same pins that come with the TSC gates.

I think the delay is caused by zinc poisoning from welding that much galvanized metal.

Oh man you mentioned a delay but I've been thinking where he never answered you I'm actually concerned the zinc might have killed him.

I'm doing fine, thank you.

The installation of the gate is tentatively set for next weekend in southern Ok. If it happens we'll post photos.

Paul I'm running seven twenty four on http://www.recycledplasticblockhouses.com

TBN is my home page but I usually don't surf the different forums but once a day if that.

Pretty cool. Would be tough to do around here though. Most all our plastics are recycled and reused for new products. To bad there wasn't a way to mold the blocks to get a more uniform fit. The better the fit the more appealing it would look and also better for keeping the elements out,. Great start and a good idea. The biggest issue we have up here is what to do with our old tires. I'm told that we have over two million of them at a dump site now and no idea of what to do with them.

Global Model Earthship - Earthship Biotecture This guy is making multi million dollar homes in the southwest with tires.

The blocks are designed to be made with the simplest of tools and in some of the worst of places for humanity.

One of the neat things about them is I've found out the plastics that are desirable for recycling are difficult to process into blocks. That makes a win win as I see it. The stuff that is desirable for conventional recycling can be separated and recycled to offset the cost of building the blocks out of the plastics that either can't b recycled or the process to recycle them is too expensive.

Question about the End links. They move and swivle around. Will you weld them once the gate is hung? If not wouldn't the gate will sag pretty bad?

If you have more than one, they wont be able to swivel any more once the pin is through them.

I hope your right. I am just trying to wrap my head around the idea that both pins together will prevent it from sagging. My mind keeps telling me that they will both sag together.

It will sag only if the gate style bends or gives way. If the style is rigid enough to bear the torque, it will not sag.

You would be right if you had seperate pins in each one. But, if you notice, he has them in pairs. A single pin through two of them prevents it.

I guess I will need a photo of how it is finished. I understand that two pairs with one pin per pair would prevent the gate from sagging. Now I am back to my original question of "what the pin looks like"

Harvey hurry up and please provide some photos.

They are usually cylindrical with a hole or groove on one end for a retaining clip.:D

I loaded it all up on the truck this afternoon. If the weather cooperates then I'll be heading up to northeast of Madill OK in the morning. It will be done and questions will be answered.
