I don't think they import Skoda's to North America so most have never seen one. I have driven in them in Europe and find they are really nice cars similar in many ways to the equivalent sized VWs.

That would be because VW owns Skoda. The Fabia is really a VW Polo.
I think VW is trying to become the AGCO of car manufacturers.

I am pretty sure Skoda does some of it's own development, but there are groups that are shared inside VW concern. The top of the line Skoda has suspension same as Audi, if I am not mistaken.
I found a sticker on a sway bar of a 911 Carrera saying Made in Czech Republic.
But Skoda used to be horrible lemon, before the revolution and take over by VW. I believe in UK they had Skoda jokes very similar to US Yugo jokes.

Well Skoda has sure cleaned up its act then. The car I drove was very nice.

I love Rally car racing, hasn't really caught on here but you can see some on tv.
I was a part owner of a Skoda until just recently. my wife and I along with her brother and sister all went in on one in aprx 1992. so we could have a car when we visited the inlaws in Poland. Can't remember the model but it was a small 4 cyl, 4 door, 4 or 5 speed?
It was underpowered and not all that well built but it was a head turner at that time as it was much better than the tiny little fiats that almost everyone else had on the road, that's if they had anything other than a horse drawn wagon or tractor pulled wagon (with the whole family, which I dubbed the Polish minivan). That was only 20 years ago, they've come a long way since, with many high end cars now, alot of diesels.
