While on a truck forum i read someones sig. and thought it was funny and wanted to share it with ya'll.

Now i'm paraphrasing it because i couldn't find it again to copy and paste

"The problem with America is Stupidity, I'm not saying get rid of all the stupid people, but get rid of warning labels and let the problem solve its self"

I laughed for about an hr on that one.

Put it here in the safety section because to the "warning labels" part.

He said when you dress that way you are careful![/QUOTE]

Its worked for me in different applications. When the guards are there people tend to count on them. When they are missing I tend to stand clear.....but once evrything has been shut down its a lot easier to install that PTO shaft, or change that blade/belt/bulb

I was told one time the safest clothing to wear when using a chain saw was a pair of shorts and bare feet in sandals. He said when you dress that way you are careful!

That what I used to do when I was much younger. People used to say, "You know the guy the crazy neighbor." Needles to say, in spite of few closed calls, so far no chainsaw injuries. I have all the safety equipment now and I am using it. I guess I matured and slowed enough not to take chances.

I can agree somewhat on the warning labels but not all of them. I think the Warning hot liquid on a coffee cup is insane,-placed there because a woman burned herself when she spilled some between her legs and claimed not to know it was hot.
Warning on the cruise control in the manual or a popular RV that the vehicle does not drive itself when on cruise control-again because a woman put it on cruise and go up to go make a sandwich and claimed not to know that it wouldnt do that.
I could name lots more, but we have come to the "not my fault that I did something idiotic and hurt myself so someone else has to pay" mentality.

Good warning labels are stuff like on grinding wheels "do not exceed xxxx RPM" this type of labels are necessary in life.

Some warning labels are needed to keep the fly by night outfits in check, but instead of warning labels how about..
USE COMMON SENSE ;)

To go along with Thomas' thought.

My favorite warning label:

"This machine does not have a brain; USE YOURS!"

Taken from the service manual for a 1984 Honda CR125: "WARNING: Do Not Check Fuel Level With Open Flame"

It never did say why. I think it shoulda been followed by "You Could Be Seriously Killed".

Haymaker, I know a guy who did that with his cigarette lighter when he wanted to check how much fuel was in the fuel cell in his race car. He's a bodyman in an autobody shop, so you would think he's know better, but sadly he didn't. Fortunately for him, his wife, his very young son and his neighbours, he didn't have an explosive ending, just caught the gas on fire. He managed to smother the flames and put it out but still...WTF was he thinking???

You're right about the warning label on the coffee, but it wasn't put there because of the lawsuit. It was put there because of some stupid lawyers. The $2M lawsuit against McDs would have been won regardless of any warning. Everyone likes to say it was a ridiculous lawsuit, but they clearly don't know the details. I think the amount may have been excessive, but the lawsuit was legitamite. From what I remember reading, they were giving free refills and purposely having the coffee at a SUPER hot temperature to prevent people from being able to drink it while at the store.

I've always enjoyed the story of my Dad explaining how he learned to never attempt brazing a gocart gas tank unless it is full of water.

Apparently even back in the 50's, parents had no sense of humor when a 1 gallon gas tank was performing a ballistic missile impersonation through their closed bedroom door at 6am on a Sunday morning.

*****Back in the 50s I don't recall ever seeing or hearing any thing about go carts.

The coffee in question was purchased at the drive-through.

The woman in question was the passenger.

She removed the lid before placing the coffee between her legs.

Unfortunately, she had already produced offspring.

A few years back my wife and I flew homebuilt ultralight airplanes. We also had a two place powered parachute. If you are not familiar with powered parachutes, they consist of a three wheeled "go cart" type frame with with Rotax engine with propeller toward the rear. Attached to this is a 500 square foot parachute.

When attaching the parachute we noticed a large label with a Skull and Crossbones pictured with the following warning:

NEVER, NEVER TAKE THIS PRODUCT INTO THE AIR! CHANCES ARE THAT YOU WILL DIE. USE ONLY AS A LARGE TENT!

Well, this chute was made in the USA and in fact was made in one of our favorite states where some folks sound a lot like Jeff Foxworthy. It was first class workmanship and I think some good 'ol boy was just having a little fun on his lunch hour!

Well, we flew the **** out of that chute and never had a bit of trouble. Of course we had a couple of "engine outs" but that chute took us safely to the ground. (You fellas that know engines, know that those two-strokers run the best just before they quit.)

Our friends used to say, "Don't you old pharts realize that flying ultralights is dangerous and that you could be injured?" We would tell them that actually there were very few injuries---lots of fatalities, but not many injuries.

Fight the good fight, live life to the fullest, and don't let 'em catch you dying in bed!

I gotta go read some labels now.

"And stop trains blowing horns while going trough the town or road crossins..."

Amen. It could be a life-long phobia of trains that developed as a kid, I dunno, but I don't trust RR crossing signals at all. I have to cross one every day a couple of times a day and I always slow down and look both ways before I cross whether there's lights flashing or not.

I know I irritate the drivers behind me but the way I see it is that I could be saving them as well as me so I don't care if they get irked. There's no walking-away from an auto/train collision.......

That is it: Your behavior is what separates the smart from those stupid. There are too many stupid people. If some of them get killed on a railroad crossing it will only improve our general genetic pool.
In the country I am originally from are many so called "unsecured" railroad crossings and drivers are required to stop and look. Trains will blow horn only if approaching train is hard to see in example due to obstruction in view. Secured crossing have a blinking blue light signaling that the stop light or gates are operational. No need to stop. If the blue light is off then only smart drivers are required to stop and the stupid are required to proceed.

I think the labels are great, they produce a fair warning to the unaware operator

The real problem is the LAWYERS ! hisssss......

We need to send them back to England:D

I am English, I live in France, (work in the UK unfortunately) my father was a scrap merchant and now I am a health & safety manager, he is still spinning in his grave having learnt I have taken up the profession, however I am with "Defective" as Dawin was right, I believe that if people want to kill themselves through their own volition, they should be allowed to, afterall, it strengthens the human race by natural selection! and its a free country (is'nt it?)
If the dopey s%$s dont have enough sense to back-off when it looks dodgey then hey-ho whats the loss?
Tongue in the proverbial cheek, & yes we should have a rule where lawyers should only be seen by people that pay for them!!!!
