My truck is an '01 Ram2500 4x4 Cummins/auto 4.11 gears. I have BHAF air filter, and 4" exhaust. Otherwise it is stock. Everything is in good shape. Tranny serviced recently, new filter, synthetic fluid. Stock size tires.

I'm looking at modules for the truck, but do not want to spend $800-1000. There seem to be some reasonable modules in the $350 range.

I'd like to try for some mileage; even though the Cummins are known for good mileage, my 4.11 gears do not help... Would like an all-around power boost, without a big smokeshow. I tow monthly, typical 6,500-10,000lbs; The tractor on the flatbed trailer, and a mid size 5th wheel. Tractor towing is 50 mile radius. 5th wheel towing is usually to the Calif coast, around 200 miles each way, although a year ago we did a 4500 mile trip to south Texas.

What module would you pick, and why do you like it?

I have never owned a Cummins but on the 3 Fords I put Quadzilla stuff. I ran a Edge Juice on my Dmax for a few days but took it off. Never really ran a chip on it so to speak.

I like Quadzilla stuff because they answer the phone when you call and answer your questions. They also have some safety built in them like de-fueling. I also have a PDQ Eliminator for my 04 F-250 but its just a race box. Makes the truck run like a scalded dog.

I personally do not think I have gotten more than a 1 mpg boost with my chips. You get your biggest gain from the air intake and larger free flowing exhaust.

For you I would go with this.

I went with the Quadzilla Adrenaline w/ Pulse controller on my 02.
Adrenaline 98-02 Dodge 5.9 Cummins

Mostly because of the safety/warning and defueling features like DP stated. Just couldn't find these on other units.

And beings you're an 01, monitoring your LP fuel pressure is very important. How are you doing this now ?

I got a 2 MPG increase w/ intake and exhaust (like yours), a 1.5 MPG increase w/ the Quadzilla and another .5 MPG increase w/ a Airdog fuel system.

My purchase limit was around yours when I started looking, still glad I bumped it up.

When it comes to cummins you cant go wrong with a Smarty. Edge and TST are also really good choises.

That was another question... The only real issue I have had with the truck is the lift pump did go out. I was considering an idiot light, but kinda like the idea of a gauge.

I too originally wanted a gauge, not only for fuel but also EGT but never did like my options for mounting. Figured I better do something and went for a idiot light 'for time being'.
A month after light install, it started flickering and finally started staying on more then off. It has a 5 psi threshold. Installation of a Fass DDRP took care of that.

When I started shopping for a chip, I really like the display the Edge has and it took care of what I wanted from gauges with the ability for mount options that I liked.
Comparing features of units w/ that type of display drove me to the Quadzilla.

I second the SMARTY, it is worth the extra $$$. Provides multipe levels of timing and/or fueling - power increase - and a fuel mileage setting as well. It is a very engine/drivetrain friendly programmer.

Also fuel pressue gauge is a very good idea. You can relocate the lift pump closer to the tank, makes changing the pump out much easier and should produce better fuel pressue as well.

Another vote here for the SMARTY. Also, if you are looking to just get reasonable gains without a bunch of modifications there is also a SMARTY JR. It is not as customizable as the full SMARTY but is supposed to designed for stock or "nearly" stock trucks.
