I'd give that station all my business. I can't stand this corn-based ethanol and the horrible side effects...

I hear ya. I wish I could get some of the good old stuff here. I have been running 100LL aviation fuel for the past few years in my 2 stroke stuff. Yes, it cost $5 a gallon or so but I only use maybe 5 gallons a year in the 2 saws, weed eater, leaf blower, and little 21" snow blower but its cheaper than another $80 carb.

As many of you know I am a pilot and travel all over the country each and every week. On thing I find interesting is the different attitude towards things. For example, I was in Philly all day yesterday and today I am in the deep south, Louisiana. Tomorrow I will be in Cali and so on.

Here is something I saw today when getting gas in my rental car. I talked to the station owner and he said they went this way about 6 months ago along with many other stations in the area because it was what the customer wanted. No tree hugger stuff down here with the Good Old Boys in the South.

Just wish they would do this back home in Indiana. Our gas is crap anymore. Every day I hear of someone with fuel problems in a boat, car, or a piece of power equipment.

Chris

They are going to hit the south HARD next year. "American Ethanol" has become a full partner (sponsor in a major way) in NASCAR. You will hear ethanol preached each and every week by everything NASCAR. I read that along with "Growth Energy", they are dropping a hundred million into NASCAR in 2011!

Every single NASCAR team is spending millions right now in the off season trying to figure out how to get the HP they need and durability they must have with ethanol in their fuel. One of the biggest carb tuners for all of NASCAR is only about an hour from me and, if you're not a major NASCAR team, you need not even approach them to see if they will do any work for you. Alcohol is very different than gasoline and even a 10% mixture requires major changes to remain on that cutting edge of performance required in NASCAR.

I'm not a NASCAR fan, although my farm isn't too far from some of the teams' headquarters.

Maybe they will have to do like they do in football and basketball. Break each race into quarters, with breaks between quarters and a longer break between halves. This will give them time to work on the ethanol-induced problems.:)

LOL! Good one!! You got me to laugh out loud with that one. What I don't get is the "why" part. I think it's pretty hard to refute that it's a losing proposition and it burns more fossil fuel to make the ethanol than the energy we get from it. Thus, the 'self sustaining' part has a huge hole in that part of the idea. Heck, I don't want my taxes to go up to subsidize methanol even more since NASCAR will be burning a few million gallons of it!

NASCAR is a dying sport. It's grown too far from it's roots and can no longer fill stands during races. Adding Ethanol is not going to help get the fans back. I mean those who are into green are not going to watch a bunch of cars burn off thousands of gallons of gas going in circles. Those who aren't into green have already decided what they like and don't like.

I agree. I was once a major race car nut, especially living in Indianapolis for a few years with the 500 mile race each year. Look at what has happened to that race. I can remember struggling to find tickets now I get them for free each and every year if I want them. The stands are 70% full.

Same thing wit NASCAR. There is no more good old boys and all the regulations make it money thing. Back in its hay day and the Indy series also the innovation was out of this world and the cars got faster and faster each and every year. Now they might as well put up speed limit signs.

I do the same thing with the 94 octane Chevron sells here with no ethanol. It's $1.35 per litre(about $4.80 U.S. dollars per U.S. gallon) I also use it in my motorcycles and only wish I only used 5 gallons a year.

I thought Al Gore had 'seen the light' over Ethanol and admitted he got it wrong back whenever it was.

Has the bandwagon gone on too far now to be stopped?

Maybe it will take food shortages to put a final stop to it?

I must admit I like idea of aviation fuel for 2 strokes.

We still get 100% pure gas around here. many f the local stations carry it cause of the lake within 10 minutes of the house. There are many stations that although dont carry non ehonol 87 octane have non ethonol 91 octane. Usually the cheapest stations in the next larger town will only have the 91 in non E gas if any. The station i use here in the small town we live near is uaually the cheapes and if not only a penny or 4 higher, but they have non ethonol 87 grade. Almost 99% of stations here will let you know on the pump in a sign or on their sign in front of the store that they have pure gas.
