I have always run Stihl Chainsaws and have had nothing but good luck with them. Running a farm I am no professional but at certain times of the year we use them hard. We process 40 to 50 cords of firewood along with saw logs we use around the farm, fence posts, ect. Lately my dealer seams more interested in selling snowmobiles than saws, so I brought one of my stihl's to a saw shop that sells Huskies. During my convesation with the mechanic-owner-dealer I brought up the issue that I was not happy with my service at the other shop but I was in the market for a new large saw. He told me if I wanted to buy the saw down the road he would still service it if I wanted a Stihl. Long story longer I came home with a Husky 372XP today. Run it for a couple of hours this afternoon and seams nice enough. I figured if he was willing to give me that kind of service on someone elses saw, why not give him the business. I still have a funny feeling about the whole situation. I am looking for some of your opinions.

Thanks

Is it the new strato 372 or the old tried and true 372? Way to tell, decomp on top of cylinder cover coming threw orange cover or on side of cylinder and not going through anything?:licking:

A friend of mine (logger) cuts wood at least 3-4 days a week year round, has used Husky exclusively for at least 20 years. On the same saw for the last 10 years. Top notch saws.

We have a dealer that sells Husky and Stihl. Interesting note: this past spring I was looking at a new Stihl string trimmer and he recommended a Kawasaki trimmer which he also sells.

I have always liked the stihls but have only heard good things about the huskys. If I was in your shoes I would have done the same thing. I think you'll love it.

On a pro saw, good service from a dealer can be more important than the brand. I run a stihl, my neighbour husqy. We swap saws now and then just to see the other side of the fence. His anti-vibe is better, I like the balance of mine better, his is tuned for a bit higher rpm than mine and pulls harder when wound out. Mine is set a bit rich and won't rev like his but has more guts mid throttle. His air filter never seems to need cleaning, but its hard to check, requiring disassembly. Mine dirties but is a lever flip away.

Both good saws.

Pro huskys are a lever clip away too. What model stihl husky are you 2 comparing? My pro stihls use a twist button.

Bought a 372XP several years back, and it's a BEAST. I love it.

Do pro Husquvarna saws ever go on sale?

Steve
I would'nt expect a 30% off sale, unless it was a left-over with a new model replacing it that had proven itself. Otherwise, maybe 10% off? I bought mine (372xp) used and after replacing the bar, clutch cover, sprocket and a new chain I had approx. 50% of new cost in it.

Funny, I got a Honda a couple years ago, cause I have worn my 225R Husky pretty hard. I still like the Husky, but that 4-stroke Honda works really well. Sounds like an old Trail-50 :D

The good support of a great dealer is most important. There isn't an ounce of difference in the make-up and performance of either Stihl or Husky, IMO. Both are as good as the other. However, I'll remain a Stihl owner at least until my great Stihl dealer goes out of business. He could retire any time. Then I will have to make a tough decision, and hope it comes out as good as your Husky decision.

I'm pretty much in the same boat! Stihl dealer has always been very good to me, but his health is failing & he lost his mechanic (back problems). He has a new kid, but the business is for sale, so I don't think it will be open when he retires. Bright side we have a good Husqvarna dealer. I've already gone to a Husqvarna trimmer & will go that route for a saw if needed. Meanwhile, I'll keep using my old 029 Super 'til it gives up! ~~ grnspot110

Still haven't tried her on the mill but I cut 10 or 12 cords of fire wood and I think I'm in love. She don't have the low end torque of my Old Stihl but at 6 pounds lighter, it feels nice. I put the winch on tomorrow and drag out a few saw logs, thats sure to put a smile on my face.

Are you going to use it in a chainsaw mill? If so. I would be curious what was the Stihl saw you milled with before. Reason why I'm asking is that I have a 64cc Stihl that I hope to mill some cedar with. I'm talking small trees may be 12-14" at the most just on the very occasional bases.

As for switching saws. I think they are both great and I would have no trouble going with a Husky saw. I bought mine from a dealer that sells and services both. It came down to a bit better price on the Stihl. My neighbor owns and manages 200 acres mostly woods. He has one of each never heard him complain about either one.

I have had a 372XP for 3 years for use around the farm, firewood cutting and in my landscaping business. Lots of power after it is broke in and never had any trouble with it. After you have ran 10 tanks of gas through it see if he will re-tune it for you. My dealer always does this for free and it makes a big difference in power. It pulls a 20" and a 28" bar when needed with no problem. I would not feel guilty about switching teams the place i buy most of my hand held equipment from is the one that will give me the best service after the sale. Some times I see similar products other place a little cheaper but when I need something fixed I know he will be there to take care of it.

I've got a couple of Stihl saws bought from a dealer that used to sell both Stihl and Husky. I bought Stihl on his recommendation as being a better company to deal with. They are now dropping Husky after umpteen years as a dealer, because Husky was forcing them to stock full line. Tractors etc and they don't have space or market. So away goes Husky.
