i was thinking that if i could get the 120as filter assy for under 80 bucks i should be in good shape. I am just looking for some extra protection. The tractor is kept in an insulated heated garage when not in use. I assume however that the electric element pre-heats the fuel so it wont gell? However the 1100 series filter you made refrence to i think is upwards of 200+. As far as the filter i linked to I cant really see what heat shield you make refrence to. Also as far as mounting the filter under the hood was it just with the 1100 series you feel could pose a fire hazzard? I cant see how the filter assy could pose such a hazzard when the bx24's second plastic fuel filter is right under the hood as well. Please elaborate on your concerns if you can.

I wouldn't worry about it being a fire hazard, I'd be more worried about where you are going to mount that thing.
Doesn't someone make a smaller filter that would work.
My JD has a nice filter on it, and the larger Kubota's have a nice filter too.

i just picked up a racor 120as filter assy on ebay for 45 bucks I hope it will fit where I want. For the extra money i saved it is better than I had from the factory.

I would be more worried about excess heat melting and the deforming the O rings and sediment bowl, that us why I suggested mounting it on the ROPS to begin with.

Think a better fit would be a B series fuel filter, my RTV had the filter like the BX and was getting water in the filter alot. I was lucky enought to find a place to mount it on the RTV. When you unscrew the bowl the fuel stops and it self bleeds with a vent line and the fuel flow valve opens when the bowl is screwed on. It is alot smaller than most of the Racors that I have seen and used.

Look up 6A320-58862 on Messicks site

when you unscrew the bowl and filter on the racor's to change/clean it does the fuel shut off automatically, or do i need to put an inline valve along with the new racor for future service/maintenance. I would be specifically talking aout the racor 120as.

No they do not shut off- they would not work properly if that was the case.

The filter requires you to install a shut off valve before the filter if the filter is installed below the tank(which is why I suggested the mounting on the ROPS for your installation).

Use a 1/4 inch bronze ball valve with female threads and two male barbed hose fittings and good hose clamps for the fuel line if you still intend to mount it below the tank.

You will need to purchase 2 1/4-inch 18 N.P.T. plugs and 2 1/4-inch N.P.T. 18 barbed fittings for the 4 fuel in and fuel out port lines.

The filter unit has an internal priming button for pumping fuel to the pump.

When you do the initial installation YOU MUST spin the filter and bowl off in one unit and fill the filter with diesel fuel, then screw it in to the filter mount -no oiling the gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your fuel is dirty the filter will clog and you must replace it; The fuel will have water in it and you will need to check the clear fuel bowl regularly for trapped water to drain it.

I was wondering what the replacement interval is for the spin on cartridge (r12s) for the racor filter i have coming. Obviously if I get a bad batch of fuel or notice alot of crap in the bowl i would change it sooner, I am just wondering how often to replace it assuming everything is working as it should.

Racor rates their compact filter units for 255 F.

Finding mounting space, under the hood, is another story.
