1972 ford 3000
I can not seem to get my ford tractor to restart after sitting for about 2 years. I bought a new battery, fuel filter, clean out the fuel tank, and i have fuel supply up to the injectors. What do i need to do to get this thing running?????????????

Try a little WD40 into the air intake, then try to crank. It will burn and not cause severe knocking. If it dies then spray a little more, and try again. i have coaxed several engines to pick up fuel and run doing this. Starter fluid or Ether, as it was called ,can cause bad damage ina short time.Be certain your fuel filter is filled to the top, no air at all.Jy.

I tried that and it did not work. I can not find any glow plugs. Does this model have glow plugs or what is the heat source and where can i find it?

could have a thermal start aid inthe intake manifold.

do you have a good hot hd hi cranking amp battery.. at least 800cca or better?

good cable ends and beefy 1/0 wire?

clean ground spot?

have you bleed the pump and injector lines with fuel bubbling at each line at the injector with the line loose?

didja make sure the fuel stop line ain't still pulled.. or the lever in the pulled position?

if so and she still won't pop.. if a manual tranny, pull start her..

I agree. Until there is leaking at each fuel line connection at the injectors with the lines slightly loose assume you have NO fuel getting to the injector.

I bleed the injector lines but not the fuel filter or the pump. I am going to do that this afternoon. I have a new battery and it's turning over really good. I checked the fuel stop lever and it was pushed in. If i pull start will it hurt the rear end and what gear should i be in?

Before you drag your tractor, try the wd-40 again just a lite mist into the air intake, as it is being cranked. It should fire up from the compression. I spray it directly into the manifold, just lightly> Dragging a tractor can be dangerous if not properly handled, but about anything else is also alarming without proper care on a tractor. gear? I have used 2nd and third gear---- be sure the clutch is not stuck. I don't know if a 3000 can bind, but an 8n will.

Diesel fuel will lose the high volatile components resulting in the formation of "gum". Injectors and the pump have this and now will not start. During cranking, do you see a white vapor out the exhaust stack? No? Then the fuel system is not delivering fuel (governor stuck in shut off position) as the gum/deposits are preventing fuel delivery. If yes, there is white vapor (fuel vapors), still clean the injectors and pump internal with solvent cleaner but do not attempt to run the engine with that solvent inside the pump or injectors, lines too. Diesel shops that rebuild pumps and injectors use Viscor test fluid. It is nothing more than highly refined kerosene with some anti-corrosion additives and it does not form gum.

pull starting is way less dangerous to the engine than using start fluid, or forever grinding on the starter trying to get her to bang over. :(

is it a standard gear model? if yes.. pull start it. you'll hurt it more grinding on it forever till the solder spins out of that 100$ core, 180$/replace starter.

PS.. it's fun to get to the 3rd starter bolt on a 3000D.. plan on taking the fuel filters and lines off and getting the battery and tray out of the way.. not to mnetion the steering arm is quite a bit in your way too...

OUCH! Grinding for-ever- who said anything about that? Most engines now only recommend 30 seconds or less cranking. Have you ever seen a towed tractor collide with the puller.???

if he's having problems bleeding and starting it.. I forsee lots of starter usage. don't need to be a jedi for that one.

colide with the puller? no.. I havn't seen it. down here where i live we use the clutch and or clutch/brake.. or if it gets really bad.. the fuel kill / ignition off control. :(

that and a safe length tow strap and you should be good... yer gonna be near ridding the clutch to pop her off anyway..

Okay, you win, what happened to the legal disclaimer? Sure enough, he has been on that starter, to bleed down the system, with several attempts before I wrote him. I hope we see from the OP the solution to it..I was unable to tow either of my Automatics....Jy.

yep.. he will have to have a manual gear tranny.. no sos.. etc.

pull starting has saved many a starter from a early death...
