I think we will have to have a fire in the stove this week. Usually we would have been burning for two weeks but the weather has been in the 60-80s with only a few nights going down to the low 40 and uppers 30s. If the temp goes up into the 60s the house will stay in the 70s.

But for the rest of the week it looks like mid to high 50s as the daytime high temperature. We might make it until the week end but then we will have some temps down to 31.

I figure we need a 1/2 cord of fire wood for both October and March.
Another 1 cord for November and February.
And 2 cords for December and January.

With this warm start to the season we are 1/4 cord ahead for the year. :D

Course I bet Momma Nature puts it colder for us in Dec/Jan. Last winter we got real cold and stayed colder than usual.

Later,
Dan

Our local weather guy here in the Atlanta, GA. area who is usually pretty accurate said we have an El nina or something like that and the South is supposed to be warner and drier this year than last...let's see if he is right ..I hope he is on the warmer but not the drier..

Our low this morning was 51, the high was 54, and now it's started back down. It was overcast even early this morning, and we've had light rain off and on since before noon, although I don't think there's much more than a quarter inch in the gauge.

That's the good news. The bad news is that my wife started coughing, sneezing, and using many facial tissues Friday, but kept going as if it was nothing because her sister was here visiting. Her sister left yesterday to return to West Virginia, so my wife got a doctor's appointment this morning. She got 3 prescriptions plus 2 kinds of sample medications. Doc says almost pneumonia. And I woke up at 4 a.m. this morning and can tell I'm getting whatever she has; primarily sinus infection, I think.

It's a La Nina year (opposite of an El Nino year). So far shaping up to be one of the most extreme in record. We're bracing for cold wet weather in the Pacific NW. Don't know what will happen to Dixie.

I guess I am the sissy anytime it gets over 70, I quit working, start whining, look for shade and a cold beer:D

The wife and I took a trip to Florida to visit the in-laws a few years ago. The first day there the in-laws took us out for breakfast, It was 60 degrees so wife and I put on shorts and T-shirts. (we're from upstate NY so 60 is like summer to us). At the restaurant all the locals had jackets, coats, or sweaters on and gave us strange looks because of our attire. Its got to be in the 40's for us to wear jackets. A nice wood burning fire is always nice though. Could have used one this morning here since it was 26 degrees F.

Well I hope you both get over it fast ... I hate cold and sinus problems. I sure hope its not gonna be one of those years.

Thats a full time arguement ... do I like the cold or the heat? I wish it was always 80/60 ...

Blueriver, on these cool, somewhat damp feeling, breezy Oklahoma days that little fire looks and probably feels pretty good. I'd be doing the same if I had one!:D

We have a fire place out on our patio. When the weather gets 60 or below, My wife and I like nothing better than to sit out there with the fire going and drink the first cup of coffee in the morning while the sun comes up. Dogs seem to enjoy it as well.

18f here this morning seems like it's going to be a fair day{atleast earlier} probably a high in the lower 40's. We've been staying in the 20's at night for a couple of weeks now, during the day any where from 30 to 50's. I don't mind the cold, infact I like it when its 20-30 out with snow on the ground and sun in the sky. This time of year is rough though with all the damp weather, nothing like a wood stove to clear the damp air.

20's up here this morning( Buffalo NY) No wood fire yet though we have been seriously thinking about it. (55-65 degrees inside)
Matter of fact during the day our unheated green house is about ten degrees warmer during the day than the house.
We try to put off starting the fire as long as we can.(or until you can't here anything over the complaints about how cold it is :D)
