GT275 Deck

In addition to the plastic hood cracking I now see that the deck has holes in it several places. Seems the holes are in the area where the outer edge/end of the blade would be. Is this from normal rust or could it be something else?

Which deck do you have? Is it the 48C?

The hoods are rediculously expensive and rediculously fragile.

Yes, 48C.

Upper and lower hood is about 400 dollars. I keep looking for a used mower for parts, but they're all cracked too. The slightest bump and there goes 400 dollars. I do like the mower otherwise.

I had a GT242 for three years that I bought used. I beat the tar out of that thing. Including nailing the porch and a tree head-on a few times while learning it. Never so much as scratched the hood.

Did you GT242 have a metal hood?

His GT275 and my LX279 have plastic hoods. They are rediculously fragile.

The GT242 is the little brother of the GT275. GT242, GT262, GT275. Same tractor, different engines and decks.

I have a GT 235 and the hoods are easy to break (at least for me). The hood can be repaired. I have fixed mine twice. I used two part plastic glue and scrap pieces of plastic on the under side of the hood. The key is to rough up the surface to be repaired. I used an angle grinder. Looks good enough for a lawn mower.
