Yeah, if Ken hadn't specified GM, the Citroen would have been high on my list. I went to school with a poor kid who had to suffer the indignity of being dropped off every day at school by his parents who drove a Citroen.:thumbdown:

Your right Jim, my brother thinks they are incredible, I agree with you, thank goodness it does not run in the family.Heres another runner up. I saw this car only the 1960's version. You could not tell which was the front until you got up close and could see the steering wheel. Fiat Multipla

The Citroens on the background were actually called "Ugly duckling". Ugly or not they were the type of car that motorized Europe after the war. They didn't pretend anything but cheap and utilitarian. People loved them exactly for that.
They had questionable breaks.
Nonexistent acceleration.
Peculiar handling.
No upholstery except the seats.
No door handles.
To open side windows you pushed the bottom half out and then up.
The crample zone was where you sat.
You could remove the engine with your own hands, overhaul it on the kitchen table and put it back all in one afternoon.
People loved them.

Yep, it was sure ugly, in my opinion, but it was one of the smoothest riding cars I ever rode in.

Ken, I believe that picture is the Renault Dauphine. I considered buying one myself about 1959 or 1960. The Renault CV4 was cheaper, but I decided against buying one.:laughing:

I was just 16 at the time and figured the Renault was made in France because my French teacher was of that origin. Where were they made? Ken Sweet

Yep, they were French.

yes, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen - all French.

Aztek wins the ugliest GM award and maybe ugliest of all time-- followed closely by the Escalade EXT (even uglier than the Avalanche and more expensive), the original Corvair and the x body hatchbacks (Citation, Phoenix etc). French cars are kinda like some dog breeds -- so ugly they are neat. For Fords, the Pinto has to rank high (even higher if hit from the rear). AMC had a string of ugly. Chrysler? The whale tale and nose on the 70 Superbird runner with lime green paint would rank up there:thumbsup:
