Is there an easy and safe way to stop a log splitter cylinder from retracting all the way. My splitter is made for 24" wood and I cut mine 14-16". I would like to save the time of the cylinder going ALL the way home.

You could clamp some cylinder stops onto the cylinder rod to effectively shorten the cylinders stroke.

There are spacers that look like collars. These go on the cylinder rod and are used to keep the cylinder from fully retracting. This method would do what you are trying to accomplish.

You should also be able to clamp something on the beam to limit travel since it does not take that much to trip the return detent on the valve.
